This week I’ll be putting out season recap articles. I went to 45 games this past year and covered basketball in the Columbus and Toledo area. This article will be talking about the tier 2 freshman I saw this year.
Perkins is a nice player who shows some extremely good flashes. He has the ball on the rope. He can dribble through defenders and split the defense almost effortlessly due to his quickness and size. Even though he does not have the best size he is a really good finisher. He is a confident player and is not scared of anyone or moment. He is a spark plug player who can come into a game and change the momentum or continue it. Excited to see how he develops over the years.
James is a player you point to on how to play the game. He is every single coach’s dream. He comes off the bench and plays his tail off. He makes an instant impact on the defensive end. He applies immense pressure to the ball handler. He is a quick player who is surprisingly very skilled. He shows it in flashes. He will get to the rim and has a great acrobatic ability to finish. James is someone you want on your team.
Highlights
Simpson is one of the better fundamental guards I have seen this year. He does not wow you with the eye test but he makes winning impacts on the game. He makes the right passes and plays for his team consistently. He does a great job of always keeping his head up when driving and in transition. Simpson also can score the ball. His shot is something he will need to develop to be more consistent. In one of the games I was at this year, he went off due to his shooting ability. He got hot quick and changed the momentum of the game. I expect Simpson to be running the offense for Lima Senior for the years to come.
Evans has a ton of potential for the Pickerington Central Tigers. I am a big fan of his games and I feel like I have seen him play on some off games this year. This is why I have him in tier 2. Evans is a kid who is long and a good height for the guard position. He can get to his spots on the floor and hit tough shots. As the year went on he gained more confidence and was ready to go in the big games. Evans will move up the list the more I see him play.
Stokes is an energizer bunny. He is an elite defender due to his quickness and hands. He is so good at getting his hands on the ball and just being a pest. He is everywhere on the court on the defensive end. He gets a lot of points off of transition and quick first steps. He is like a fast-twitch muscle. He would be a guard I love to have on my team to put in the game and cause havoc. He can change the momentum of a game and completely disrupt the offense.
