Take a look at some of the Freshman who had standout seasons and broke out onto the scene:
Desmond has lots of athleticism and an impressive frame for a young player. These two traits were key to his breakout season this year, averaging 4.4 Points Per Game and 7.7 Rebounds Per Game for Cardinal Newman – one of the more talented teams in the state. Harrington flirted with double-doubles several times this year, but his best statistical performance was a 12-point, 8 rebound-rebound, 2-block performance in February against Ben Lippen – another strong SCISA program. Desmond is our highest ranked player in the Breakout Freshman list, and comes in at #3 Overall in the first PH SC Freshman Rankings.
Robert Wylie Robert Wylie 6’3″ | CG Ridge View | 2027 State SC had a breakout Freshman Year for the 4A State Champions Ridge View and makes his debut at 5 in our opening 2027 Rankings. He had some extremely bright moments throughout the season, in particular in important games. Two of his most notable “big game performances include 7 points against Grayson (GA) in the Chic-fil-A Classic Championship and 7 points against Riverside in the State Championship. In both games, he played key minutes and made crucial plays down the stretch to help his Blazers pull out wins. Robert has already received Division One offers from Nicholls State and Jacksonville University, and will play for Team USC during the Grassroots Season.

Colt is another player who broke out in a successful year for his team. The Freshman was the Starting Point Guard on a team that made it to Florence for the State Championship. Fowler averaged 8.4 Points, 4.8 Rebounds, and just over a steal per game in his first season playing Varsity for his father. His ability to make reads and understand the game stands out for a guard of his age, yet he also has a good stroke and is fearless in attacking defenders. Despite graduating a strong Senior Class, the Rebels will still be in the conversation thanks to a Top-10 Freshman in the state and a potential star in their ranks.
Tucker Scholl Tucker Scholl 6’0″ | SG Greenville | 2027 State SC is had a terrific Freshman year and is already one of the premier shooters in his class. He led the Red Raiders in 3-Point Field Goal Percentage at 43%, and was also named All-Region. He averaged 9.4 Points Per Game and had several games with multiple made threes. He is also a gritty defender who will step in to take a charge and use his hands to create turnovers. He checks in at 13th Overall in the first Freshman Rankings and is the #1 SG in the State for his class.

Unlike some of the other players in this list, this High School Season was the first time I got to see Kmajay live. He didn’t disappoint. He is a terrific athlete who is already one of the premier rebounders in the state, averaging 8.7 per game to go with 7.7 points. He is a true do-it-all player who can finish around the rim, bang with other bigs, and even make plays for his teammates. Jenkins even flirted with a Triple-Double in a game against Easley in January, putting up 11 points, 9 rebounds, and 8 assists. Kmajay was also named All-Region as a Freshman, and is a Top-25 player in the first PH SC Freshman Rankings.
Dreyton Jackson Dreyton Jackson 5’6″ | PG Easley | 2027 State SC wraps up our list of Breakout Freshman from the 2023-24 Season. He was the Starting Point Guard for the Easley Green Wave and averaged 11.9 Points Per Game, 5.5 Assists Per Game, and 2.5 Steals Per Game on his way to being named All-Region in year one. He is a very composed ball handler who can run various sets on the offensive end. He has great vision and feel for the game but must be respected as a shooter, connecting on 35% of his attempts from behind the arc. Jackson also is a pesky defender with great hands and fast reflexes who is already a Top-10 Point Guard in the state for the Freshman Class.
