Another Upward Star with some recruiting momentum this month is Harrington. He picked up D1 offers from East Texas A&M and Chicago State, along with his first offer from local D2 Benedict in late March. Desmond had eight stocks in four games out west last weekend, proving his frame could make an impact against the highest level of competition. He’s also had several highlight-reel dunks so far this spring, catching the eye of people across the state.

Harrington was a key piece of Upward Stars 16U’s win over ASAK Elite on Thursday in Bracket Play. Desmond had a pair of early and-ones, using a pump-fake and drop-step to score through contact. He also displayed good hands on defense, tallying 3 steals. However, it was Harrington’s crunch-time play that was most crucial. He was a factor on the glass, saving offensive possessions and ending defensive ones. Desmond also had a couple of nice passes in the short roll – a very intriguing piece for his game. He finished with 12 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 assists in the Round One win.

had a very strong weekend for Upward Stars SE 15U, who were playing up in the 16U Division this weekend. Despite that, Harrington had a size and length advantage over most bigs that he matched up with. Desmond was very aggressive throughout the weekend and excelled in cleaning the glass, scoring around the basket, and protecting his rim. He wasn’t asked to score much in the 16U Blue Bracket Championship Game, but he was a beast on the glass pulling down 13 Rebounds.

Desmond has lots of athleticism and an impressive frame for a young player. These two traits were key to his breakout season this year, averaging 4.4 Points Per Game and 7.7 Rebounds Per Game for Cardinal Newman – one of the more talented teams in the state. Harrington flirted with double-doubles several times this year, but his best statistical performance was a 12-point, 8 rebound-rebound, 2-block performance in February against Ben Lippen – another strong SCISA program. Desmond is our highest ranked player in the Breakout Freshman list, and comes in at #3 Overall in the first PH SC Freshman Rankings.

Harrington really thinned out and grew in height this past year for the Cardinals. Desmond didn’t put up big numbers on a very well-balanced team. Harrington averaged 4.4 ppg and 7.7 rebounds for the SCISA Class 4A State Champions this season.
Desmond has good footwork to work around the paint area and from side to side. The Cardinals have plenty of young talent in the years to follow after finishing (21-15) this season.
