Continue ReadingThe sophomore class is starting to take shape, in that ten or more prospects are leading the charge on their varsity clubs respectfully. What else might be taking shape is the rankings of the state’s prospect for the class. With a few of these prospects having been on their varsity clubs for a couple of seasons now, it is showing that these few are the most composed. Now everyone below is on some sort of ‘watch list’ in the state but they are really starting to separate themselves with their performances and production. The back half of the season is going to be fun and interesting for this group.
Vaughn Karvala Vaughn Karvala 6'5" | SF Oregon | 2026 State WI | 6’6″ | W | 2026 | Oregon | Team Herro
The sleek lengthy sophomore has been impressive this season and is really starting to build off of his freshman campaign. He really started to impress me at a NY2LA prospect camp this past fall where he competed against some of the area’s top prospects. He is the leading scorer on his 8-5 Oregon club by tallying 24.5 ppg. In addition to those numbers, he grabs 7.5 rebounds per game, which is solid glass work, then adds 2.8 assist per game. One area of improvement that has to be undertaken is his 24-83 or 28.9% shooting from deep where we all know that 34% is the minimum. Having him ranked in the twenties in the state’s class seems incorrect and I see changing a lot. Currently in my opinion a 10-15 slot would seem right and soon I could image a top ten player. With his size, once he get the shot consistent, adds some solid muscle weight, the class rankings could be in a battle for him, Gray, Hamilton, and Jensen.
Josh Manchester Josh Manchester 6'4" | PG Mount Horeb | 2026 State WI | 6’3″ | G | 2026 | Mount Horeb | PGC
Josh is starting to get some notice around the state. Also, he went on some college visits over the summer, and it looks as though he is building off of that confidence. Scoring at a rate of 25ppg and 34-86 39.5% from 3. He even had a large outburst of points where he made a list of top individual performances for the week. Mount Horeb high school sits at 9-3 on the season and Josh is a big reason to the winning record. Currently ranked 8th in the state by Prep Hoops.
Amare Hereford Amare Hereford 6'1" | PG Beloit Memorial | 2026 State WI | 6’1″| G | 2026 | Beloit Memeorial | Team Herro
Late summer and then into the fall camps Amare was one of the fastest raising prospects in his class for the state. He is growing into a very solid player at this rate. 23.9 ppg | 5.4 Rebound per game | 4.5 assists per game are very good numbers to put up out of a point guard role. Let’s keep an eye on this prospect as he shoots up the rankings for sure.
Yusef Gray | 6’4″ | W | 2026 | West Allis Central
21.6 ppg and 6.6 rebounds off the glass are solid for this player, who some believe is the top prospect in the state for the grade. His team is young with some solid talent and have posted an 8-4 record to date. Teams are actively game planning around stopping or controlling this player so I am wondering how the season will end up for him. He is already garnering some attention from scouts and universities..
LaMont Hamilton | 6’1″ | PG | 2026 | Racine St. Cat’s
The last time I saw this prospect live was the Kettle Moraine scrimmages just a few days prior to the season. I thought he had turned the corner in his approach to the game. Meaning that he was just ferocious on the defensive end and carried that over to the offensive aggressiveness. 22.7 ppg | 5.4 Rebounds | 3 assists are solid numbers. Again, for a PG to have 5+ boards per game is great. We would like to see a couple more assist per contest, but as he potentially grows into a top guard in the state probably that should come. One final stat that I thought was impressive is the 31-52 or 59.6% shooting on the 3-ball. That’s good! Like really good.
Andrew Jensen Andrew Jensen 6'9" | C Kaukauna | 2026 State WI | 6’9″ | W | 2026 | Kaukauna | All Wisconsin
The big man with the Marquette offer is averaging a double-double with posting 15.1 ppg and 10.2 rebounds per game so far. Do you know how hard that is to do? His game is progressing nicely this year where his athleticism is starting to pop. He can have a little bit of a angry or mean streak in him, so I would recommend to watch out our someone might get put on a poster. What I am enjoying watching this year is that he is proving he can play next to another big and still produce. He holds offers from Bryant and West Virgina.
