If it wasn’t Daniel Freitag Daniel Freitag 6’1″ | PG Breck | 2024 State #142 Nation MN putting points on the board against Holy Family, it was likely Miles Newton Miles Newton 6’4″ | SF Breck | 2025 State MN scoring. He thrived against the zone defense as he was consistently finding space in the corners to catch and shoot from three, hitting his shots at a high percentage. He impressed with his ability to score without needing to dribble, as he was knocking down those outside shots and constantly finding ways to pull in offensive boards and go right back up for two points. There were times where he dribbled into trouble and ended up losing the ball, so cutting back on those turnovers will be key. Newton ended up finishing with 16 points in a strong performance.
Highlights
Daniel was dominant from the jump as he put up 13 points in the first five minutes of play, and didn’t slow down much from there. The future Wisconsin Badger was knocking down shots from well beyond the arc, and getting to the rim with ease in transition. He wasn’t just creating shots for himself though, as his pass fakes and ability to look off defenders was constantly shifting the opposing zone as he found open shooters with zipped in passes. Daniel would look one way, and fire a pass to the opposite corner where the defense was least expecting it. It’s rare to see a player score 37 points in a game while also assisting as many buckets as Daniel did.

Despite the loss to Breck, Brayden was still impressing with his play in the paint. Breck didn’t quite have the size to match him, so Brayden was looking to establish deep position early and often. He scored the first bucket of the game with a right handed hook shot, and produced throughout the game with various post scores and putback buckets. Showed his quickness getting off the floor with a two handed dunk in the second half as well. Solid combination of size, finishing touch, and athleticism.

The potential is high for JP. Since last year he’s become more mobile and fluid with his movements, making him a threat inside and out. Against the zone defense he utilized his length to find gaps around the basket to finish at the rim, but was also stretching the floor with his shooting touch. You don’t see a lot of prospects in the 2026 class who can match JP’s combination of physical tools and budding skills. He finished with 16 points in the big win.
Since his freshman season Kenny looks a little bit taller, and more toned, allowing him to step away from the basket at times. He still showed that strength to dominate in the paint against Highland Park, but stepped out for a mid-range shot and a floater as well. Not many guys at his size have the soft touch that Turner possesses, and that allows him to cap off his chances with efficiency as he won’t miss many good looks. Outside of scoring I thought he made some great outlet passes off of steals/defensive rebounds. He secures the ball with two hands and was able to look up and deliver some deep passes to his teammates sprinting up the floor.

Dhimani Tucker
Dhimani Tucker
Dhimani was everywhere on the floor making plays. He has some of the best defensive instincts in the Twin Cities when it comes to forcing turnovers. He knows when to come in for a trap, he’s lighting quick moving his feet on the ball, and he reads long passes like a safety before flying in to intercept it. His ability to force turnovers led to some easy buckets on the other end, as he can weave in and out of opposing players. Even at 5’8 he’s fearless attacking the basket, and has impressive body control to just hang in the air and finish from various angles.
Daejohn showcased some versatility in the big win for Johnson. He can play in the paint as he has the strength to finish through contact, he can control the glass, and also make plays defensively as he swatted a shot off the court. Thomas also looked comfortable with the ball in his hands as he was handling it coast-to-coast on multiple occasions and showcasing soft touch off the glass finishing on the move. Part of a deep and talented St. Paul Johnson squad this season.
