Here are the top seven competitors I saw at the Prep Hoops Minnesota Freshman Showcase on Sunday!

Mason dominated in the one 5v5 matchup I was able to catch, being very difficult to stop with the ball in his hands. He has solid size and length for a freshman guard, but his quick first step and shiftiness make him nearly impossible to stay in front of man-to-man. He was at his best when attacking the basket, being able to finish strong or draw a foul. Melzer is also a knockdown shooter on the perimeter, pulling up off the dribble in the mid-range or hitting on a catch-and-shoot look from deep.

Blake was another player at camp that can completely take over games with his size and skill. The 6'1” freshman guard looked much more experienced and coordinated than anyone else on the floor his size, dominating in 3v3 play. He is a relentless attacker and is able to finish with either hand through traffic inside. Blumer was also causing major disruption to opposing ball handlers, pressuring and forcing turnovers.

Caleb is such a well rounded prospect and I really like how he projects to make an impact at the varsity level very soon. He has very advanced skill and decision making for a lead guard his age, minimizing turnovers and creating for himself and his team. He can score from all three levels, showing touch from deep and inside, as well as attacking strong where he was not scared to go at defenders in the paint. Wilts played hard and will be a guard prospect to watch out of Southern Minnesota.

I really liked Micah's game and the way he was able to affect the game in so many different ways. He is a winning basketball prospect, playing hard and unselfishly. He was good size and strength for a freshman guard, rebounding the ball well and giving great effort defensively. He could create off the dribble, dishing to teammates, also working himself inside where he could finish with touch around the rim.

TyTus brought a lot of juice and energy to his team when he was on the floor, making things happen. I really liked how hard he played on the defensive side of the ball, pressuring when on the ball and flying around into passing lanes. Offensively, he has a very quick first step and was working around defenders with no issue. Lawrence plays unselfishly and was prioritizing finding teammates for open looks.

I saw Brodie once this summer and he impressed once again on Sunday, playing super hard and impacting winning in a variety of ways. Whenever he is on the floor, he is going to give maximum effort. Despite being one of the smaller players on the court, he rebounds well and can push the pace, creating scoring chances for his team. Papenfuss is a dynamic offensive threat, scoring from inside and outside, as well as making some great passes for open scores.

Mansoor did not make a ton of bigtime highlight reel worthy plays, but he thrived in doing the dirty work for his team, which resulted in him filling up the scoresheet. As a 5'11” guard, he was exceptional rebounding the ball on both ends of the floor. While other players were jogging around and not boxing out, he took full advantage. Burton was sprinting down the floor and crashing the offensive boards, which led to several putback baskets for himself.
