Let’s take a look at the top power forwards in this latest rankings update. This does not include any players who were in the top 10 in the class.
Breedlove has come out of nowhere this season to be a solid piece of the Lyon County team that is running through competition on their way to a return trip to Rupp Arena. Lukas is very bouncy and excels at finishing lobs. His long term ceiling will depend on his ability to put the ball on the floor and shoot out to the three point line.
Turner’s production has dipped thanks to a loaded roster at Newport. James still has great long term production but his lack of rebounding is a little concerning, considering how tall and athletic he is. This spring and summer will be a big opportunity to justify James’ early offers and potentially earn more.
Watkins has serious long term potential and could be a top prospect in the class before graduation comes. DeAaron’s only thing slowing him down is a tendency to get into foul trouble and have to sit on the bench for long stretches. With his size, Watkins should be rebounding at a higher rate but his offensive upside is big time as he’s shooting 58% overall and 44% from three this season.
It looked for a minute like Bender would be removed from the rankings after quitting at Ballard earlier this season but he’s now enrolled at Fern Creek and taking advantage of increased opportunities. I think Jordan has a lot of potential. The thing he needs to do most is get out and play as much as possible. He’s one kid that needs less drill work and more game action.
One of our new names in the rankings, Adams has a ton of potential thanks to being a long and athletic forward who plays with a good motor and plays well above the rim. If you’re looking for a player to buy stock in, Taeshawn is the guy. If he gets some exposure to colleges this spring and summer, he could hold D1 offers by his Junior season.
