Watkins is a versatile player whose best is better than the best of a lot of players in this Senior class. DeAaron had a great season for Daviess County and recently decommitted from McKendree University so he is now one of our top unsigned Seniors in the state.

I loved the toughness Watkins played with on Saturday on a Daviess County team that didn’t have really any other size to help him in the paint. To put it simply, if Watkins didn’t show up to play, they were losing by 30. Watkins played his ass off on both ends of the court with numerous rim contests, box outs and hustle plays in front of two of his future college coaches on the sidelines. The offense is still coming together as he knocked down a 3-pointer but airballed one shortly after. Loved how Watkins didn’t back down from likely the tallest frontcourt he’ll have to face this season and Daviess County proved they can hang with top talent.

Watkins was dominant in the DC win. Tallying 18 points and 23 rebounds in the win along with keeping the GRC bigs in foul trouble all game, DeAaron looked to be reaching his potential for the first time. I’ve long been a fan of Watkins and love his ceiling as a prospect. He was dominant against GRC and showed exactly how good he can become.

Watkins is another versatile forward with a bright future. I’ve had high expectations for DeAaron over the years and won’t be surprised if he has a great start at D2 McKendree and then transfers up to the D1 level later in his career. With legitimate size and a high skill level, Watkins is a matchup nightmare for opposing coaches to try and scheme around.

DeAaron has all the tools to be an impact player every time he touches the floor. Watkins’ natural position is that of the stretch 4 but he has to play the 5 spot more often than not due to matchups. I’ve seen some really impressive stretches from DeAaron over the years and am interested to see how the summer goes for the big fella.

One of my personal favorite prospects in the class, Watkins is a stretch forward whose best basketball is all ahead of him. As long as he doesn’t get stuck playing the 5 in AAU, Watkins has the potential to see his offer list grow significantly this spring and summer thanks to his size, skill and athleticism.

Watkins is one of the more impressive and dominant forces on the interior in Kentucky high school basketball. On Friday after a slow start, Watkins was dominant in the second half for a Daviess County squad that has the talent to compete with just about anybody from their region of the state. Watkins also has the ability to pick and pop from downtown, knocking down a couple of time and space 3-pointers. Taylor County didn’t really have anybody close to Watkins’ size and he had a big day finishing at the rim and using his size and strength to his advantage. Look for Watkins to get plenty of Division I looks playing for Midwest Basketball Club on the 3SSB circuit this upcoming spring and summer.

Watkins continues to be one of my favorite players in the 26 class thanks to his diverse skill set. Able to shoot the three at a high clip or go down to the block and post up, DeAaron is a mismatch for opposing defenses and has yet to touch his potential as a prospect.
