GMC Wins Big Over Laurens in Opener

The 2024 Prep Hoops SC Showcase began with a matchup of the 2A Greer Middle College Blazers and the 4A Laurens Raiders. The Blazers had a vibrant start to the game and opened on an 11-0 run. They had lots of early success on the offensive glass and were terrific in out-of-bounds sets, getting 3 buckets on those in the opening quarter alone. [player_tooltip player_id='1160580' first='Musa' last='Muriithi'] had success from range early in the 2nd, hitting back-to-back attempts in the first 45 seconds. [player_tooltip player_id='1127746' first='Jack' last='Pfister']'s size and physicality wore down the Raider's interior defense as the game went on. He was dominant with his back to the basket and on the offensive glass and finished with a 19-point 14-rebound double-double. [player_tooltip player_id='2230457' first='Tylan' last='Fowler'], Nick Dancui, and [player_tooltip player_id='2024465' first='Zakarion' last='Simpson'] were bright spots for the Raiders in an otherwise rough afternoon. Simpson led the Raiders with 10 points and added 8 rebounds. Muriithi and [player_tooltip player_id='2346058' first='Braylen' last='Silver'] joined Pfister in double-digits for the Blazers.

Blue Eagles Outlast Mavericks in 5A Matchup

The second game of the day featured two teams in their final games before the open region play next week. Both teams matched buckets at the beginning of the game but in the second quarter, Clover began to pull away. The Blue Eagles had several possessions with tremendous ball movement and consistently had players pass up good shots for great shots. [player_tooltip player_id='2467381' first='Owen' last='Galeota'] was a product of their early success, knocking down 4 of 6 attempts from behind the arc. In the 3rd Quarter, [player_tooltip player_id='1292345' first='Isaac' last='Allen'] started to take over the game. He had some very strong drives and frequently got the free-throw line to add to his point total. [player_tooltip player_id='1420680' first='Braden' last='Hershberger'] answered some of Allen's buckets to keep the Mavericks close. However, Clover continued to slowly pull away as the game went on and eventually picked up their 8th win off the season. Allen led all scorers with 21 Points and Hershberger and [player_tooltip player_id='1405865' first='Nathan' last='Wilbourne'] each had 15 for Mauldin.

Late Surge Boosts Eastside to Victory Against Daniel

Two Top 10 Teams in their respective classes met in Saturday's Third Game. Daniel had a hot shooting start to the game with their first 4 made field goals coming from 3-point land. They also did a good job of mucking the game up and making life difficult for the Eagles on the offensive end. [player_tooltip player_id='1766104' first='Simms' last='Disbrow'], who had a very productive game, hit a transition mid-range jump shot to increase the Lions' lead to 5 at halftime. But the Eagles were much improved in the second half. They went on a quick 7-0 run out of the locker room to grab their first lead of the game with just over 2 minutes played in the third. [player_tooltip player_id='1172558' first='Justin' last='Ray'] began to take over for a stretch in the quarter as well, scoring 10 points in the first 4 minutes of the second half. He adjusted well to the defensive looks that Daniel threw at him and was much more effective and efficient in the second half, where he scored 24 of his 30 points. Disbrow's hot shooting continued in the fourth quarter and he hit some big shots to answer Ray. The key possession for Eastside came on the defensive end in the final minute, as they worked extremely hard to keep the Lions from getting a good look and secured the rebound to seal the game.

Henry Buzzer Beater Wins Possible Game of the Year

The hosts were in action in our fourth game of the day, taking on cross-county rival Greer. It was a terrific game from the very start, with neither team leading by double-digits for the entire game. [player_tooltip player_id='1239537' first='Isaiah' last='Henry'], who would go on to have the biggest shot of the night, had a solid start to the game with 7 first-quarter points. [player_tooltip player_id='1239534' first='Bryson' last='Drummond'] carried the scoring load for Greenville for most of the night, getting to the rack and finishing at will. [player_tooltip player_id='1407052' first='Amare' last='Anderson'] found his form with 12 points in the second quarter for the Yellow Jackets. [player_tooltip player_id='1419748' first='Brayden' last='Lytes']' put-back layup cut the Red Raider lead to 1 going into halftime, but he then hit a 3 on the opening possession of the second half to retake the lead. Both teams continued to trade buckets for the remainder of the game and we were tied at 57 after [player_tooltip player_id='1486212' first='Mikey' last='Williams Jr'] went 1-2 from the line with 1:17 seconds left. Greenville was attempting to hold it for the last shot when Henry jumped a passing lane and finished the transition layup as time expired and the crowd erupted. It was truly a spectacular game and one that will prepare both teams well for region and playoff matchups down the road. Drummond led the game with 25 points followed by Anderson with 20. [player_tooltip player_id='1892485' first='Roman' last='Cooley'] had a 13-point 10-rebound double-double.

Gray Collegiate Tops Georgia Foe in Nightcap

AA's Top Team Gray Collegiate faced off with Atlanta-Area Pebblebrook for our final game of the 2024 Prep Hoops SC Showcase. Despite the War Eagles opening the game on a 9-0 run, the Falcons hung tight thanks to early buckets from [player_tooltip player_id='2245699' first='Zyree' last='Brown'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1579522' first='Caleb' last='Thomas']. [player_tooltip player_id='1180896' first='Braylhan' last='Thomas'] had a good start to the game as well and had 8 points connecting on 4 of his first 5 shot attempts. Gray Collegiate continued to add to their lead in the third quarter, holding Pebblebrook to just 3 points and winning the period by 17 points. [player_tooltip player_id='992183' first='Ellis' last='Graham'] had a positive imapct on both ends of the floor and [player_tooltip player_id='1162932' first='Treyvon' last='Maddox'] had a couple of rim-punishing finishes. If it were for some late missed free throws and turnovers, the War Eagles could've had an early night but credit to the Falcons for hanging around. Brown and Thomas each had a scoring spurt late to cut into the lead but it wasn't enough as Gray held on for an 8-point win.
