There was no shortage of talent on display and it can be hard to narrow down the best of the best but here were the top performers I saw on Saturday.
I saw two games of Waide last week and left impressed both times. Santi is just super skilled and carries himself like a high school Chris Paul. He commands his team and constantly talks to them and runs the team. He is in the mix with the top point guards in the state in 25.
Saturday was the first time I’d seen Fawns in a long while and it didn’t look like the same kid I saw a couple of years ago. He’s bulked up big time and has a college ready body already. Luke finished with 38 points on Saturday against Woodford (25 in the first half) and was keeping Montgomery in the game for as long as he could.
It’s remarkable how efficient Dawson can be sometimes. Vince ended up with Championship game MVP honors after posting 31 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists on Saturday against Ballard. He scored the ball at a high level, finishing 13 of 21 from the field and acted as a facilitator as well.
Highlights
Great Crossing never really had much of an issue dispatching with Ballard on Saturday so it’s easy to say that Moreno had a quiet game. Malachi finished with 16 points, 17 rebounds and 6 blocks in the win. Moreno has developed a lot of consistency over the years and can just be counted on for a double-double with 3+ blocks every night out.
The Harrison County/Boyle game was an ugly one but Hager played well in limited minutes while he battled foul trouble. Maddox found his spots against the Harrison zone to finish 7/11 from the field for 14 points but needs to become a more active rebounder. Only a couple weeks removed from football season, the big Freshman will get better over the course of the winter.
