Santonio Waide Santonio Waide 6'0" | PG Combine Academy | 2026 State NC was at it again on Tuesday. The Kentucky transfer had two quality performances against Desert Pines and Democracy Prep. He had a few drives to the basket where he left his defenders completely in the dust. The crafty guard changes direction in a split second. It reminds you of a running back in football hitting a hole. His play helped Trinity secure the win over Desert Pines. Trinity lost the second game but he finished with 33 points.

Santonio transferred here from Kentucky and will be playing for Trinity Prep this year. The speedy guard is dangerous with the ball in his hands and I like how he plays with his eyes up. He does a nice job anticipating where the help is coming from, and found his teammates for a number of assists. From what I saw, he looks capable of putting up 10+ assists in some games this year.

Santonio is a quick and dynamic point guard who excels in transition and uses his quick first step to consistently beat defenders off the dribble in half-court sets. A creative playmaker, Waide is a solid passer with soft touch around the basket, utilizing a variety of finishing angles to compensate for his lack of size in the paint. His ability to break down defenses and find scoring opportunities made him a standout throughout the event.

Waide stood out for a Team Indiana squad that qualified for the 3SSB tournament by posting an impressive Adidas Gold record. Waide’s impact was providing downhill slashing and energy off the bench. Able to set the table but also provide rim pressure, Waide had a stretch in the second half where he had an and-1 off a sweep and go, an acrobatic layup off a hesitation move, knocked down two 3-pointers and had a transition layup. That stretch in the second half flipped a near double-digit deficit into almost a double-digit win.

One of my favorite players to watch in the class, Waide is an old school floor general in the mold of a Chris Paul type guard. Santi took advantage of more time at the point after Jasper Johnson’s transfer and had a big Junior season despite an injury limiting him in the middle of the season.

One of my favorite point guards to watch in the class, Waide is super skilled and excels at playmaking and will sit down and play defense. An above average passer, Santi is good at getting into the paint and scoring or distributing to teammates.

I saw two games of Waide last week and left impressed both times. Santi is just super skilled and carries himself like a high school Chris Paul. He commands his team and constantly talks to them and runs the team. He is in the mix with the top point guards in the state in 25.

Santi had a big AAU summer and looks to continue that momentum into his Junior season for a new look Woodford County squad. Waide needs to continue improving his shot selection but there’s no reason he shouldn’t average 15+ points and 5+ assists per game as a Junior.

While Woodford County will certainly feel the loss of Jasper Johnson, Waide is thriving in a bigger role. Moving up from 39th to 20th in this update, Santonio is playing with the ball in his hands almost all the time for Woodford now. Look for him to have a breakout Junior year for the Jackets after having a big spring and summer of AAU.

Waide is starting to establish himself among the top point guards in the class with a strong spring and summer. Santi can be a little ball dominant at times but he will make the right pass when it’s open and excels at getting into the paint and is a good decision maker once he’s there.
