A number of these guys look like sure-fire picks, but as we get deeper into the list, there’s plenty of room for other names to pop up and make their case for the spots. I’ve also added some additional names to watch at the end.
First Team
Harshman has elevated his game from a year ago and is an easy choice to get the first team started. He’s a true playmaker on both ends of the court and has established himself as a major scoring threat throughout the summer and fall. Look for him to be under consideration for 1A Player of the Year, and possibly lead his Gators to a state title.
Another Gator worthy of All-State hype, Kaupanger is a bigger, athletic guard who’s really locked in from long-range in the summer months. He’s a high-caliber scorer, rebounds really well for a guard, and shows that next level of commitment to make big hustle plays defensively. He’s yet another Gator in the discussion for 1A Player of the Year.
He was the second scoring option for the state runners-up last season and now gets the chance to be the go-to guy in his senior year. Linhardt’s physical skills have gotten a lot better over the last year which has helped him diversify his approach and get a lot more going off the dribble. He’s long, can shoot the three at a high clip, and plays tough around the hoop.
The Lyncs big man is a brute down low and on the glass who also shows some explosiveness in the frontcourt. He runs the floor well, defends the rim, and can stretch the floor enough to pull his man out and create space to get downhill to the hoop. He’s a big reason the Lyncs are in the discussion for another state title this season after taking home the 1A chip last year.
He heads a trio of players out of Quincy who could make some noise this winter. Bews has the size and skill to be a dominant player inside and has really improved his perimeter game, looking more fluid both shooting and putting the ball down to attack inside. His size and athleticism will prove a tough nightly matchup in the 1A which should lead to a standout senior season.
Second Team
Here’s another Quincy Jackrabbit with All-State potential. Ibarra is a patient player who gets his buckets with fakes, footwork, and soft touch, spraying shots from all over the halfcourt. He can score going any which way and does a great job working the heart of the defense, splitting defenders and converting tough shots.
Highlights
A big, athletic guard who should burst out this season, Van De Graaf can impact the game all over the floor. He’s efficient from downtown, has the strength and size to finish through defenders at the rim, and is one of the premier defenders in the 1A. He’ll be making plays all over the court this season and will have Zillah in the late season conversation yet again.
Highlights
Navarre is another strong, athletic player for the Zillah Leopards. He’s got a high-energy style of play, winning 50/50 balls, dominating the glass, and can rack up multiple rebounds on any possession with his fight and fire. He’s a big time threat in transition and has shown some growing ability with the jumper.
An instinctive player who can create for others just as well has he can score himself. He’s got deep range from three, knows how to create space off the dribble, and has good spatial awareness on both ends of the floor. Sultan should be a team to watch thanks to Trichler and his brother Toby.
