Continue ReadingA future South Dakota State Jackrabbit, Larson’s speed makes a major impact on the game on both ends of the floor for the Midgets. As a junior, he averaged 27.2 points, 8.4 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 2.6 steals a game, showcasing his ability to dominate games as a scorer, defender, and playmaker. He’s incredibly skilled with the ball in his hands, creating looks for himself and his teammates off the bounce, and he’s a deadly mid-range shooter.
One of the best shooters off the dribble in the state, Miller gets the ball into his shooting pocket incredibly fast off the bounce and elevates into his jumper in the blink of an eye. He has a lethal mid-range game, range well beyond the arc, and is a talented playmaker as well. He’s coming off a junior year in which he averaged 26.0 points, 6.3 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 2.0 steals on 51-38-81 shooting splits for the J-Hawks.
Highlights
An explosive athlete who uses his athleticism and physicality to dominate games on the offensive end, Ries can score from all three levels, and once he gets a head of steam going, he’s nearly impossible to slow down as he bullies his way to the bucket. He’ll play linebacker at Iowa instead of playing college basketball, but he’ll be looking to lead the Panthers back to the state tournament for a fifth straight season. He averaged 23.1 points, 10.2 rebounds, and 2.3 assists a game on 49-36-75 splits.
Arnaman recently committed to play his college ball at Minnesota State. He’ll give the Mavericks an incredibly skilled offensive weapon who can really shoot it at a high clip off the dribble and create for his teammates off the bounce. He has a great feel for the game and really knows how to get to his spots. He averaged 21.8 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 5.7 assists a game last season on 47-42-68 splits.
Highlights
Pound-for-pound, DeVries may be the toughest player in the state. He’s relentless, looking to constantly attack the rim in transition and in the halfcourt, and he seems to spend as much time on the floor as he does on his feet. He’s a tenacious on-ball defender who moves his feet and has quick hands, and he’s a great passer who puts pressure on opposing teams with his speed. He averaged 12.5 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 4.1 assists a game a a junior for the Eagles, who will open the season as our #1 team in 2A.
Highlights
Davis is a stat-sheet stuffer on the wing who averaged 19.7 points, 10.6 rebounds, and 2.1 assists a game on 55% shooting as a junior for the Pirates, and then he followed that up with a great summer with the Iowa Barnstormers Black. He didn’t shoot it very well from the arc last season (26.5%), but his stroke looks better than those percentages would indicate. He’s a versatile playmaker who can create looks off the dribble, and he provides versatility on the defensive end as well with his combination of size, length, and lateral movement.
Highlights
A smart guard who can play with or without the ball in his hands, Martin averaged 17.0 points, 2.8 assists, and 3.0 steals a game on 45-35-74 shooting splits as a junior for the Falcons. He shoots it well off both the dribble and the catch and he gets his teammates involved at a high clip. Defensively he has a knack for jumping passing lanes and turning defense into quick and easy offense.
Highlights
A big wing who can really shoot it, Kirkpatrick knocked down 41.2% of his 3-point attempts as a sophomore for the Spartans en route to averaging 16.5 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 2.0 assists a game. At 6-5/6-6, he has great size and is able to get to his shot pretty much whenever he wants to as a result of that size advantage. He moves well without the ball in his hands, can create a bit off the bounce, and has a quick release on his jumper.

Thomas recently committed to play his college ball at NAIA Northwestern, where he’ll give the Red Raiders a dynamic all-around offensive weapon who can play with or without the ball in his hands. When he has the ball in his hands, he’s a skilled playmaker who can break down the defense and get to the rim, but he’s also a talented passer who sees the floor really well. He’s a gifted shooter off the dribble, but he may be even more deadly as a shooting threat when he’s operating off the ball, finding open spaces in the defense to torch teams from deep. He shot over 46% from behind the arc as a junior, averaging 15.9 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 3.4 assists a game.
Van Regenmorter is a unique player and a really difficult matchup at the 2A level with his combination of size, physicality, court vision, and IQ. He’s a versatile playmaker who can bully his way to the rim, and he really knows how to get to his spots on the offensive end. He’s a skilled passer who sees the floor incredibly well, and he’s excellent when he’s operating out of the high post area. He averaged 13.4 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 4.0 assists a game as a sophomore for the Wolfpack, shooting over 55% from the floor.
