Expert Analysis
Tony Roe | Prep Hoops Scout
A quick guard who is capable of breaking down the defense and getting into the paint seemingly whenever he wants, DeVries showed improved confidence in his jumper in the Eagles’ loss to Dallas Center-Grimes, going 3-5 from behind the arc en route to 10 points. He has good vision, is a great ball-handler, and a solid on-ball defender who is going to help some small school next season.

Pound-for-pound, DeVries may be the toughest player in the state. He’s relentless, looking to constantly attack the rim in transition and in the halfcourt, and he seems to spend as much time on the floor as he does on his feet. He’s a tenacious on-ball defender who moves his feet and has quick hands, and he’s a great passer who puts pressure on opposing teams with his speed. He averaged 12.5 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 4.1 assists a game a a junior for the Eagles, who will open the season as our #1 team in 2A.

The junior guard is a menace in transition; he pushes the ball at an incredible speed while maintaining great control and vision of the floor. If his teammates are out running with him in transition, it is very likely De Vries will work to get an angle to set them up for a bucket. The Eagles PG ended with 11 points, 5 assists, and 3 rebounds in the semifinal loss to #1 Central Lyon.
