Continue ReadingA 6-2 off-ball guard with a lightning quick release and unlimited range, Howard is a huge piece for the Mustangs because of his ability to not only stretch the floor and move without the ball, but also because of his improved handles and shot creation, not only for himself, but his teammates. His biggest attribute is still certainly his jumper and off-ball movement, but he has really improved as an all-around player on both ends of the floor. He finished with 15 points on 5-11 shooting (2-6 3P), 3 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals.
A versatile two-way wing, Jones uses his length and IQ to impact the game on the defensive end, moving his feet and getting into passing lanes. He keeps the ball moving offensively and has good court vision, and he does a great job limiting mistakes on both ends of the floor. He shoots it well off the catch and moves without the ball in his hands. He had 12 points on 4-7 shooting (2-5 3P), 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals in the Mustangs’ win over Pella Christian.
A big, athletic forward who finishes above the rim with authority, Cahill is a dynamic interior presence for the Mustangs, protecting the rim, finishing around the bucket, and controlling the glass on both ends of the floor. He also showed impressive court vision and passing instincts out of the post, recognizing the double coming and finding open teammates. He had 13 points on 6-12 shooting, 8 rebounds (4 offensive), 3 assists, and a block against Pella Christian.
A quick guard who is capable of breaking down the defense and getting into the paint seemingly whenever he wants, DeVries showed improved confidence in his jumper in the Eagles’ loss to Dallas Center-Grimes, going 3-5 from behind the arc en route to 10 points. He has good vision, is a great ball-handler, and a solid on-ball defender who is going to help some small school next season.

Geetings is kind of Pella Christian’s version of Jaden Jones Jaden Jones 6’3″ | SG Dallas Center Grimes | 2024 State IA , a solid two-way player who does a little bit of everything well. Nothing spectacular, everything well. He has good length and is a solid athlete who can defend multiple positions. He knocks down open shots off the catch. He contributes on the glass. He keeps the ball moving. He had 15 points on 6-13 shooting, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals, and a block against DCG.
Highlights
One of three Wilmes brothers in the Winterset starting five, Hudson is a knockdown shooter, especially off the catch with unlimited range and a quick release. He moves really well without the ball in his hands, utilizing off-ball screens to free himself, and when he has his feet set, few in the state are dynamic off the catch as he is. He showed some solid court vision and ball-handling in the Huskies’ win over Carroll as well, dishing out 3 assists in addition to his 22 points on 5-11 shooting (5-10 3P, 7-7 FT). He also uses his speed to his advantage on the defensive end, using quick hands and good instincts to jump passing lanes or pick opposing ball handlers clean, coming away with 6 steals in the win.
Hudson’s twin brother Hayden is a high-level shooter in his own right, going 3-6 from behind the arc in the Huskies’ win over Carroll en route to 13 points and 3 assists. Like Hudson, he moves really well without the ball in his hands and has a lightning-quick release off the catch. He contributes on the glass, is a solid on-ball defender, and reliable ball-handler and decision-maker.

A long, lanky 6-4 combo forward who can stretch the floor, create a bit off the dribble, and score around the bucket with good footwork and touch, Hensley had 18 points on 7-15 shooting (2-3 3P, 2-2 FT), 3 rebounds, 2 steals, and 3 blocks against Carroll. A lefty with a smooth stroke and a high release, he’s a bit of a matchup problem in the Raccoon River because of his combination of size, shooting, and post scoring. He’s also a versatile defender who moves his feet well, rotates, and protects the paint.

Hammer is a really good, bouncy athlete who finishes at a high clip around the rim, using his size and athleticism advantage to finish above defenders. He has really good hands and soft touch around the rim. In addition to scoring around the rim, he showed good court vision and passing instincts, finding open teammates cutting to the rim off the backside. He rotates well on the defensive end and has good timing as a shot blocker. He had 22 points on 10-19 shooting to go with 6 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 blocks in the Tigers’ loss to Winterset.
