Prep Hoops Florida is your year-round source of high school and grassroots basketball coverage from across the state. Here are some 2026 guards I’m excited to see take the floor this season.
Willie Piggott Jr, A 6-5 sophomore guard who can impact the game on both ends of the floor whether it’s his ability to finish around the rim on the offensive end or his strong efforts on the glass at the defensive end. Piggott has good size, length and athleticism where he can guard multiple positions out on the perimeter or on the interior. Look for Piggott to play with a lot more confidence this season as the sophomore guard continues to have high potential. He also currently holds offers from Radford, Samford and several others.
Herly Brutus Herly Brutus 6’5″ | SF Umatilla | 2026 State FL , A 6-6 sophomore guard who has a big frame showcasing his strength around the rim where he can score off the catch as well as off the bounce. He is also a dominate defender where he can block shots at the rim using his length and was an absolute stat-stuffer last season as a freshman. He has a strong IQ and feel like he is going to continue to improve his game on both ends of the floor. He is also an excellent passer who sees the floor well for his size and is unafraid to finish at the rim with contact.
Maddox Palmer Maddox Palmer 6’4″ | SG Beachside | 2026 State FL , A 6-5 sophomore guard who can attack the rim finishing effectively on both sides of the basket. Palmer has a strong knack for knocking down shots off the catch as he has expanded his game into becoming a true three-level scorer. He has the IQ of an upperclassmen where he knows on when to shoot versus pass the basketball as well as create for his teammates. He has built a strong understanding for the game and will be a name to keep an eye on for the next three years. Palmer is also an above-average defender where he moves exceptionally well out on the perimeter as well as contesting tough shots around the rim.
Joseph Hartman Joseph Hartman 6’3″ | CG The Rock | 2026 State FL , A 6-5 sophomore guard plays the right way with and without the basketball in his hands, as I’ve been high on him since his freshman season started. Hartman has a smooth release on his jump shot where he can knock it down from either the mid-range or from the perimeter. Hartman currently holds offers from Charlotte, Jacksonville, Omaha, Penn State, Saint Louis and Wichita State. He is a poised point guard who has the chance to be a real special prospect for the next three years.
Jarvis Pope Jarvis Pope 6’0″ | PG Brandon Academy | 2026 FL , A 6-0 sophomore guard plays with a ton of quickness and toughness on the offensive end of the floor. Pope has also improved his 3-point shooting as well as his ability to attack the rim finishing effectively. He does a great job at getting to the free throw line where he has also improved his game. On the defensive end, Pope has shown a ton of versatility where he can guard multiple positions as well as showcase his true definition of a playmaker.
