DeMarcus is one of my favorite prospects in the 2026 class with a super high ceiling thanks to his length, athleticism and defensive versatility. After leading Lafayette in scoring last season, Surratt moved across town to Douglass where he should combine with Juniors Aveion Chenault Aveion Chenault 6’3″ | SG Frederick Douglass | 2025 State KY and Armelo Boone Armelo Boone 6’3″ | SG Frederick Douglass | 2025 State KY to form one of the best backcourts in the entire state. As of today, DeMarcus isn’t eligible yet but should be soon.
Highlights
DeAaron could be the biggest impact player in the 3rd region, period. If he’s motivated to be that guy. When he wants to be, DeAaron can be dominant as a back to the basket post and has shown the ability to stretch out to the three point line. His ceiling as a player is crazy high. Maybe the move to Owensboro will help him get his motor running all the time.
Malachi had been a difference maker for Paris for a couple of years before his transfer to GRC in August. Ashford picked up his first D1 offer this summer as ETSU pulled the trigger after their elite camp. He should have more talent around him at GRC than he ever did at Paris. If Malachi can become as much of a facilitator as he is a scorer, there may not be a better point guard in this 26 class. He’s also still waiting final eligibility from the KHSAA.
Moss returned to Daviess County after starting for them as an 8th grader in the 21-22 season. Last year, Jonathan helped get Owensboro to the Sweet Sixteen and now he’ll hope to get past his old team and get Daviess County to Rupp. Moss can get his own offense or facilitate for others and will need to do a little of both next year for the Panthers to get out of the district and make a run to Rupp.
Cosby played freshman and JV for Trinity last year but is going to be in line for a big role at Manual this season. Xavier is the beneficial of a growth spurt in the last year or so that has completely changed his body and helped him get more athletic. Primarily known as a shooter, the 6’3 guard will only get better putting the ball on the floor as his game evolves. His ultimate prospect ceiling will depend on his defensive ability and footwork but Cosby stays in the gym working so he’ll be the best version of himself that he can be.
