Our first team feature is the Windermere Prep Lakers who reached the Class 3A Championship Game back in March. The Lakers are destined favorites to get back to the state championship game.
Head Coach: Brian Hoff, 6th Season
Class: 3A
2022-2023 Record: 24-8
Key Returners: Brandon Bass Jr. 6-5 CG (2026) has a respectable all-around game who can score on all three levels. Bass is at his absolute best when he is on the attack and has a furious finish around the rim and is very active on the boards. On the defensive end, he adds a ton of versatility where he can use his athleticism to guard out on the perimeter. Bass has already received offers from Illinois, Houston, LSU, St. John’s and UCF.
Key Returners: Sinan Huan 7-0 Center (2026) Huan makes an impact on both ends of the floor using his height to an advantage whether it’s getting timely blocked shots or battling on the boards. Huan is versatile on the offensive end where he could either be out on the block or occasionally knock down a shot or two from beyond the arc. He has a smooth left-handed mid range shot as well that he can knock down with space. Huan already holds offers from Alabama, Florida, Mississippi State and several others.
Key Addition: Samuel Shoptaw 6-2 CG (2025). Shoptaw comes into Windermere Prep from Valdosta (Georgia) where he is one of the top perimeter shooters in the class. Shoptaw also does a great job at initiating the offense as well as getting his teammates involved with his crisp passes. On the defensive end, he plays with a ton of physicality and does a great job at getting the opposition out of the lane. He also has a knack for mismatches where he is often at times guarding along the interior as he is an underrated rebounder for his size.
Key Addition: Malachi Martis 6-5 Wing (2025). Martis comes to Windermere Prep from Calvary Christian Academy where he was defined as a combo-forward. Martis can score in a variety of ways whether it’s posting up or shooting from beyond the arc. He moves exceptionally well for his size and can be a versatile player for the Lakers this upcoming season. Martis plays with a ton of length on the defensive side where he rebounds well and gets out in transition in a hurry.
Sleeper Prospect: Gustavo Roca 6-3 CG (2027). The 6-3 freshman combo guard has a mature game beyond his years. He has taken major strides to his game where he has a knack for knocking down open shots from the perimeter. He can score off the catch as well as off the bounce at a high level. Roca moves exceptionally well with and without the basketball in his hands. Roca has high potential to be one of the best freshman in the state by season’s end. Roca holds offers from New Mexico State and Stetson.
Sleeper Prospect: Ian Parham Jr. 6-5 CG (2026). Parham comes to Windermere Prep from Calvary Christian Academy is a highly touted two-way prospect. Parham has a knack to knock down shots from across all three levels with space and has the strength finishing above the rim while absorbing contact. On the defensive side, Parham plays with a ton of physicality and uses his size where he can dominate on the glass. Parham currently holds offers from Houston, Jackson State, Jacksonville and Radford so far in the early stages of his recruitment process.
