Dinos Trigonis and his Pangos brand brought together many of the regions best teams – and players – for a combination of showcase games and the loaded Challenge of Champions bracket. In this piece we detail Saturday’s top performers.
Aaron Powell Aaron Powell 6'0" | CG Campbell Hall | 2024 State CA-S , 2024, Campbell Hall
Powell can really fill up the scoring column when he gets it going and he did just that in a chippy win over Santa Margarita. The Cal Poly SLO-commit scored 28 points in multiple flurries that included three-pointers off the catch and off the dribble and strong downhill drives and finishes at the rim.
Brandon Benjamin Brandon Benjamin 6'4" | PF Anaheim Canyon | 2025 State CA-S , 2025, Mater Dei
Benjamin was one of the bright spots for the Monarchs, which were down three key players, as they fell to St. Joseph of Santa Maria. The junior forward is one of the most skilled interior players in Southern California and his combination of shot fakes, footwork and crafty finishing around the basket led to his team-high 20 points.
Brandon McCoy Brandon McCoy 6'4" | CG St. John Bosco | 2026 State CA-S , 2026, St. John Bosco
McCoy only had 12 points in the Braves 66-44 win over Windward but he didn’t play a bunch of minutes and didn’t need to take a ton of shots to impact the game. The 6-foot-4 combo guard is one of the smoother athletes in the state and was recently ranked the No. 3 prospect in the country by one of the national recruiting sites. McCoy made a handful of eye-popping plays that led to him earning the top spot in our SoCal rankings.
Brayden Burries Brayden Burries 6'4" | SF Roosevelt | 2025 State #13 Nation CA-S , 2025, Eastvale Roosevelt
Burries, who is our top-ranked player in the 2025 class, asserted himself in a fast-paced, free-flowing win over St. Bernard. The 6-foot-5 wing scored 16 points in the 54-51 victory and used his physicality, athleticism and skill to score in a variety of ways, including an impressive one-handed tip-jam off of a teammates missed three-pointer.
Carter Bryant Carter Bryant 6'8" | SF Corona Centennial (CA) | 2024 State #12 Nation CA-S , 2024, Corona Centennial
Bryant didn’t get a ton of minutes for the Huskies, as it wasn’t necessary in Cen10’s blowout of Crean Lutheran, but he set the tone early. The 6-foot-8 wing/forward knocked down a couple of catch and shoot threes, created opportunities for teammates with high IQ passing off the dribble and at the top of the key and did a nice job of picking his spots to score and to distribute.
