Phillips was my favorite shooter at the camp all Sunday long, as he absolutely torched the nets all three games. He has a smooth, quick release that allows him to get his shot off with little space, and can do it quickly in transition or off the dribble. When he’s feeling it he really gets hot, with little the defense can do to throw him off of his rhythm. He should be in line for a big year at Cardinal Gibbons.
Henson’s ability to shoot the rock is really an off the bounce kind of thing, but he showed why he’s a lethal beyond the arc threat all Sunday. His lateral movement is so quick and opens up opportunities to get space, and has a quick release to fire shots without a defenders contest. He likes space to operate in, taking guys out of isolation situations, but can shoot the ball from a spotted up catch position as well. Incredibly versatile.
Highlights
Bruce lived up to my thoughts pre-showcase as he hit threes at a high clip along with his teammates. He’s shorter but knows how to find space and seek out open pockets on the wings and the corners. Also has a really smooth release on his shot that allows him to find consistency and not be discouraged if one of his shots doesn’t fall. He’s a volume guy normally but didn’t show it Sunday, instead going for selectiveness and efficiency.
Leighton is a bigger wing that still has the ability to really shoot it from deep. While thin, his size allows him to shoot the ball from a higher release point and disaffect many defenders shot contests. He seperated well, constantly spotting up and patiently waiting for his time to let it fly. He can get hot in a hurry, and it really depends on his confidence to be able to see him get going. He’s a name to monitor with powerhouse Northwood this season.
Colin Pinion
Colin Pinion
Pinion was a prospect who made the trip from Kellam High in VA to the Top 250 Expo and did not disappoint in terms of being an elite shooter. He showed he could score the ball in a variety of ways on the perimeter with his shotmaking ability. He moved well without the ball and knew where to find openings to be a factor on the perimeter. He’s a 2025 guard who should gain some traction this season.
