Expert Analysis
Victor Taylor | Prep Hoops Scout
Leighton is a bigger wing that still has the ability to really shoot it from deep. While thin, his size allows him to shoot the ball from a higher release point and disaffect many defenders shot contests. He seperated well, constantly spotting up and patiently waiting for his time to let it fly. He can get hot in a hurry, and it really depends on his confidence to be able to see him get going. He’s a name to monitor with powerhouse Northwood this season.

Leighton is another of the litany of multi-sport athletes across North Carolina. The bulk of his athletic schedule occurs during the winter and spring months. When his campaign on the hardwood concludes, he puts away his basketball and picks up his baseball, bat and glove as he takes to the diamond. Leighton primarily plays on the frontcourt as either a three or a four. While he can certainly place the ball through the basket from midrange, he particularly can get it done from deep. He is listed at 6-foot-5 and can also spend time playing as either a wing or in the backcourt as a two. Last season’s 3A Chargers rendition finished with a 28-3 record along with a 12-0 mark in conference play.

Leighton is a familiar face out of Northwood High who stood out with his strong frame, length and ability to know where to be. He’s an efficient shooter who can make shots from all over the floor and should be a pivotal face in the Chargers rotation this season. He didn’t just shoot either as he knew where to be defensively and on the rebounding front to make his presence felt in that manner. DII and DIII programs in the region should get eyes on him!

Leighton is a returning face for Northwood High and should prove himself as quite the sharpshooter at this year’s Top 250 Expo. He put up 7.8 PPG, 3.4 RPG and 1.4 APG on 35 percent shooting from deep in 2022-23. His development should be fun to watch after knocking down 47 3-pointers as a junior.

The type of player that catches your attention early on due to his height and the ability he has to knock down shots from the perimeter. He moves well without the ball, does a nice job of getting his feet set when he comes off screen and has good range on his shot.

Leighton was another presence on the perimeter that got hot in a hurry for Northwood High. He knocked down a total of three 3-pointers during their big run to show off his shooting stroke from deep. He continues to be a 2024 prospect that DII and DIII schools should get eyes on.

Leighton is Northwood’s top 3-point shooter so far on the young season as they’re 7-1. The 6-foot-6 wingman does well to space the floor with his ability to knock down shots on the perimeter. He’s currently averaging 11.3 ppg on 58 percent shooting from deep in his junior season. He’s a prospect to get eyes on that fights on the glass and knocks down shots.
