Continue ReadingBorn recently committed to play his college ball at Northern Iowa, following in older brother Bowen’s footsteps. Redek is bigger than Bowen, perhaps not quite as explosive with his first step, but he uses his size to his advantage, seeing over the defense and being willing to take smaller defenders onto the block to create offense as both a scorer and facilitator. He’s a gifted all-around offensive weapon who can score from all three levels at an efficient clip (51-40-84 splits). He averaged 18.6 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 4.9 assists as a junior for the Warriors and could be among the leading scorers in the state as a senior.
Cavil is one of the most explosive scorers in the state, a threat to drop 30 on any given night. A 5-11 guard who has progressively gotten more efficient, he’s armed with one of the best mid-range games in the state, which he pairs with creative finishing, elite court vision, and outstanding handles to be a dominant all-around offensive weapon. He has the quickness and quick hands to be a solid on-ball defender when he’s engaged as well. Transferring to Johnston will put him with some fantastic athletes and should take some of the scoring pressure off of him, which could lead to his most efficient year.
On a senior-heavy team last season, Costello was asked to play a slightly different role than he was accustomed to, stepping into a playmaking role after putting together some dominant scoring seasons on the grassroots circuit with Pure Prep. A long 6-3 wing who can handle it, he used his size advantage to see over the defense and find open teammates. He’s a creative passer, versatile three-level scorer who can play with or without the ball, and a good rebounder. He averaged 8.6 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 4.0 assists as a junior.
Highlights
Few players in the state helped themselves more in the last 18 months than Winkel did, elevating himself into a legitimate scholarship-level prospect. A lead guard who can get to the rim seemingly at will, he averaged 16.8 points and 4.9 assists a game as a junior while shooting 47.3% from the floor. His perimeter stroke is still a work in progress but is good enough that it needs to be respected. Armed with a high IQ and great feel, he rarely makes mistakes and is a flat-out winner who is going to make a significant impact at the next level.
Highlights
Johnson was finally back fully healthy last season after missing a chunk of time with a knee injury, and he was back to his stellar self, averaging 15.0 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 2.8 assists on 46-42-89 shooting splits. He has great footwork and is a really good ball-handler. He does a great job using his footwork and handles to free up some additional space, and is a fantastic shooter off the catch. He’s a good team defender who positions himself well, gets into passing lanes, and moves his feet when defending on the ball.
A powerful wing who is at his best when he’s playing downhill and using his physicality to bully through defenders en route to the bucket, Aguirre averaged 14.3 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 2.0 assists as a junior. A lefty who is tough to stop once he gets the defender on his hip, he also contributes on the glass on both ends of the floor and is a good enough ball-handler and decision-maker that he can lead the break after pulling down a defensive board.
A 6-1 combo guard who can play with or without the ball in his hands, Uecker is an excellent shooter off the dribble with extended range and a quick release. He gets the ball into his shooting pocket quickly and has the combination of footwork and ball-handling to help create some additional space to get his shot off. In addition to his shooting, he’s able to get to the rim for finishes, and he does a great job getting his teammates involved, showing good court vision and passing instincts.
Highlights
Phillips was really good this summer with the Battlers, showing the ability to score inside and out, at times being a dominant force around the rim on both ends. A 6-5/6-6 forward with quick feet, soft hands, and great touch around the bucket, he has a few go-to moves on post touches and is a good passer with great court vision. He has improved his ability to create off the dribble when he catches it on the perimeter, and is enough of a perimeter shooting threat that it needs to be respected. He could turn into a stretch-4 at the next level.
Proctor is an excellent athlete on the perimeter who has established himself as one of the better on-ball defenders in the area. At 6-1, he has good length, which he pairs with quickness and athleticism to create some chaos on that end of the floor. On the offensive end, he’s primarily a downhill player who looks to attack relentlessly both in transition and in the halfcourt. He finishes well around the rim and is a solid secondary playmaker. He averaged 9.2 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.8 assists a game as a junior.
