It was a strong all-around performance for the uncommitted 2024 guard, who showcased the ability to score from all three levels, create as a ball-handler, and serve as a reliable on-ball defender. Costello has always been one of the most explosive scorers in Iowa’s 2024 class, and when he gets it rolling like he did midway through the first half of this game, he’s tough to slow down with the combination of his size, athleticism, and quick trigger on his release. He shoots it extremely well both off the dribble and the catch. He poured in 25 points for United in their win.

Mason caught fire on Saturday for Iowa United , as the unsigned senior scored 20+ points in a win. He did most of his scoring from beyond the arc, working off the catch or creating his own shot. He could shoot right over the defense when pulling up off the dribble and could get shots off quick in the catch-and-shoot. He also had some nice kick outs to open teammates. Costello would be a steal for any programs looking to add another offensive weapon in the 2024 class.

Mason was simply not missing on Saturday morning. The unsigned senior guard had to be leading the event in three point makes through his first two games, as I believe he drained 8 in game one, followed up by about 6 more in his second game. The unsigned senior can come off screens and quickly get his feet set to elevate into his release, and his stroke from there is pure. Mason gets solid elevation on his shot so he can get it off with a hand in his face, and he was hitting college range threes with comfort. Scholarship schools still looking for a shooter in the 2024 class should be giving Mason a look.

Costello is a long wing who can create off the dribble or play without the ball in his hands and knock down shots off the catch. He made his name with Pure Prep as a dynamic three-level scorer, putting up some huge scoring games during his 15U and 16U seasons, and then was really good in a different role as a junior at Waukee last season, shining as a playmaking wing who led the team in assists. He averaged 8.6 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 4.0 assists a game last season.

On a senior-heavy team last season, Costello was asked to play a slightly different role than he was accustomed to, stepping into a playmaking role after putting together some dominant scoring seasons on the grassroots circuit with Pure Prep. A long 6-3 wing who can handle it, he used his size advantage to see over the defense and find open teammates. He’s a creative passer, versatile three-level scorer who can play with or without the ball, and a good rebounder. He averaged 8.6 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 4.0 assists as a junior.
