It’s only a starting point for rankings and the list will grow and change with each coming update but we have enough information to start our 2027 rankings. Here’s a look at the top 5 prospects in the class.
Tyce starts the rankings on top and has the potential to stay on top for the duration of his high school career. Simpson could be a special player if he keeps growing, developing his skills and invests in being a better defender. One scout told me that he thinks Tyce is a future Top 100 prospect, nationally. All that remains to be seen but his prospect ceiling is way up there.
Jack has a smooth game with a high skill level and is a really good shooter, especially in the midrange. Logsdon checks all the boxes of a future D1 recruit but it’s hard to see how high his prospect ceiling is, long term. He was almost definitely the most productive 2027 player at the varsity level as an 8th grader last year when he averaged 13 points and 6 rebounds for Grayson County.
Highlights
Gay has a ton of long term potential. He’s big, skilled and plays hard the majority of the time. GRC graduated a ton this Spring and Coach Cook will look to Montez to carry a large burden right away for the Cardinals. Improved shot selection will be his first hurdle as Gay tends to settle for bad shots once fatigue sets in.
Holman is a name that would not have been ranked this high before our Freshman showcase last weekend. The guard from Great Crossing showed up and played at a high level. He flashed several tools in his toolbox that will serve him well, long term. Slotted as a combo guard right now, I can see LJ becoming a full time point guard for Great Crossing over the course of the season.
Highlights
Hager already holds 2 D1 offers in football as a tight end but he’s likely to end up a scholarship level basketball player, too. Maddox shot 53% overall and 38% from three in limited opportunities as a freshman at Boyle and is likely to have a much bigger role this Winter when he’ll be one of the tallest players in the 12th region.
