Bishop Gorman high school was crawling with media, writers, scouts and NBA personnel for the opening night games. We were able to watch two of the three courts – four games total – on Sunday night which featured a good amount of California-based prospects. Here’s how they did.
Kaiden Bailey Kaiden Bailey 6'3" | PG Calvary Chapel | 2026 State CA-S , 2026, Crean Lutheran
Bailey was the other 2026 prospect in attendance from Southern California and, if you know anything about Bailey, he’s one of the more confident scoring guards in the area regardless of class. The 6-foot-3 rising sophomore showed a good balance of looking for his own shot while distributing to his talented teammates. Bailey scored five points and dished out four assists in Sunday night’s game.
Kendyl Sanders Kendyl Sanders 6'6" | PF St. Bernard | 2024 State CA-S , 2024, St. Bernard
Sanders had a solid Sunday night outing as he scored nine points to go along with three rebounds while helping his team to a big win. The versatile 6-foot-6 wing flashed his inside-out scoring touch, ball skills and passing ability in transition settings and looked to play the right way when it came to defense and rebounding.
Mercy Miller Mercy Miller 6'4" | SG Notre Dame | 2024 State #45 Nation CA-S , 2024, Notre Dame
If there’s one thing Miller does really well and really consistently, it’s put points on the board. That was no different Sunday night as the 6-foot-3 shooting guard dropped 24 points on 8-for-14 from the field, 3-for-5 from three-point range and 5-for-5 from the free throw line. There was one note written next to Miller on my yellow legal pad and I think it perfectly sums up his game. That note: “Professional scorer.”
Robert Hinton Robert Hinton 6'4" | CG Harvard-Westlake | 2024 State #147 Nation CA-S , 2024, Harvard-Westlake
Hinton has the game and basketball IQ to fit in in just about any style of play. He just adapts and produces. The 6-foot-4 wing didn’t have an eye-popping stat line – four points and two assists – but his defensive energy and effort, combined with his willingness to compete for 50/50 balls sparked a late comeback for is team, even though they fell short.
Tounde Yessoufou Tounde Yessoufou 6'6" | SF St. Joseph (Santa Maria) | 2025 State #20 Nation CA-S , 2025, St. Joseph
A guy like Yessoufou is going to make things happen regardless of the setting because of how hard he plays. Our No. 2 prospect in SoCal for the class of 2025 scored 12 points on 5-for-9 from the field but was surprisingly only credited with two rebounds. Cleaning the glass is one of the things Yessoufou does best and, in our viewing on Sunday, we saw him grab at least three offensive boards.
