We had two players who really stood out and are my tournament Co-MVPs. Take a look at the players making the top teams.
Co-MVPs
Easily the most impressive scorer in the 16U division, Johnson was nearly automatic at times, raining in high-arching shots from deep, showing awesome quickness and handle to capitalize on his length at the rim, and using the extra attention from the defense to dish to open teammates. He is high-end talent in his class and showed exactly why throughout the weekend, helping his Renton Select team finish at the top of the table.
Simmons played for both Roots Academy and BDH Elite throughout the weekend and was easily a top performer for both squads. His physicality and security with the ball was amazing to watch. He was in attack mode getting into the heart of the defense and showing great touch around the paint as well as an ability to get teammates involved. Simmons was also one of the top rebounders and posed an incredible challenge for any player he matched up with on the defensive end.

First Team
Donovan Gill
Donovan Gill
Gill is a super athlete that led his team to a 2-2 weekend by using a shifty handle to get defenders off-balance and attack, getting to the rim or using a nice quick move to create room to drop in a 3-pointer. He’s a long and strong guard who really appears to have the whole package working for him. His motor was also top notch as he made numerous defensive plays to affect the game on both ends.
Seward was a beast inside, using some bounce and sheer strength to overpower players at the rim. He wasn’t just all brawn though, he knew how to attack inside with patience and ball fakes and showed good touch from the rim to the foul line. He was a big presence inside for Roots and helped his team win the possession battle for much of the weekend.
Highlights
Bradley Giesen
Bradley Giesen
Giesen lined up in the backcourt and was a ferocious slasher for Renton Select. He was able to win one-on-ones and get downhill to the basket after setting defenders up with quick crossovers outside. Shifty on the perimeter, he was also extremely tough at the rim with a mix of acrobatic and strong finishes. He was another guy that played tough on both ends and was a big factor helping his team finish perfect at the tournament.
Barbee is a long player who found his groove attacking players off of the dribble and attacking the glass to clean up missed shots. His value was evident for a short-handed squad as he was able to pick up important defensive matchups and keep BDH Elite in every game during the weekend.
Robinson showed off some of the most impressive diming of the tournament. But his ability to keep his eyes scanning the halfcourt while shaking and baking his defender was truly special. He could have shot more, as he showed a sweet stroke from outside, but his facilitating helped spur the rest of his team and led them to a 4-0 weekend.
Zhalei Van
Zhalei Van
Van was a whirling dervish who got to the hoop again and again, hitting over the top of defenders with some tough angles on the glass. The sophomore is a crafty guard that initiated a ton of action in the halfcourt and was able to knock down big shots over the weekend while making on target and timely passes.
