Maybe they are performing, but often they have a skill that others don’t, that jumps out at you. Sometimes the production is not there but that prospect is doing correct things, the small things. We can tell that if they just keep working that this player has a chance to be a special prospect. Then if that work turns into development it could turn into something. It is certainly a process. It makes us just wanting more and certainly eager to watch from afar and track that process.
Below is a short list of those players we should know and remember. That we should track their progress throughout the process. Hopefully, the next time you check in you can see improvement and you then know that they will be on their way.
Marcellus Duncan | 6’3″ | G | 2028 | College Bound
This player had several intangibles that jump out at a scout and darn it he just looked the part too. Let’s call the young prospect 6’3″ and looked long and lean. Also, know that you read it right when I listed him as a 2028. He was playing up in the 16u division. Matter of fact his whole team, which were 2027s, were playing up. They went 3-1 for the weekend and took the strongest team to the final seconds. In this particular game he was trusted to take the last shot in the waning seconds. Let’s just think how special this is, a young athlete, who is not in high school yet, holding his own against 3 years of age difference of players. Normally, we would be worried about physicality etc. but not here. He is more than just an athlete; he is a player who has skills and the confidence. Let’s put him on the list and track his development.
Parker Henderson Parker Henderson 7'0" | C Hobbs | 2025 State NM | 6’9″ | C | 2025 | Hobbs, NM | New Mexico D1
This was one of the first players that I noticed when walking into the gym. He is huge, standing at 6’9″ and processing a big body, he looked more physically developed than most 2025s. He ran the court well for a big & was a very physical player on both ends. Moving forward, to dominant, he needs to break a couple of habits. One that I saw was not to rely just on his size when rebounding, but to use that physicality with explosive powerful rebounding. Next, when posting up on the block it’s not about posting up tall but posting up with a wide strong base. Since he only picked up a basketball a couple of years ago, he just needs to play a lot of games and the improvement will come. He needs to study bigman moves & along with that the footwork. The game is inside of him, and he has a chance, as he progresses through his high school career, to be special. If he works he will be a next level talent. But for now, let’s enjoy the process. let’s put him on the list & track his development.
Jackson Scarborough | 6’9″ | W | 2026 | Clark, CA | New Mexico D1
This New Mexico D1 team was loaded with height having three players at 6’9″ and two more at 6’5″. Jackson was a 2026 playing up a year and with that was not as physically developed as a couple of his teammates. But he did seem to have a really long wingspan, which can indicate more growth to come. Scarborough, at times, hovered around the parameter where he shot the three ball occasionally. When going inside he had a powerful base to power through some contact. Being this young and tall his athleticism is not nearly a completed project yet. With that being said, though, he ran well, posted up strong, and shot with some confidence. When he fills out I think he could be a very solid prospect that can certainly do more than just be tall. He will be a baller. I was impressed with some of the small things with this one. Let’s put him on the list and track his development.
