In a big game in the Southern California Sea View League, the El Toro Chargers hosted the Aliso Niguel Wolverines last night. Both teams went into the game 2-2 in league play. The Chargers only led by four heading into half-time after a surge by Tanner Shone on the Chargers. The senior is a solid offensive player that would be able to add value to any roster that he is a part of. His best attribute being his lights-out three-point shooting.
The second half went the Charger’s way with a dominant 57-44 win. Their star forward Ashton Rico is able to score in a variety of ways and ended up with a game-high 22 points. He’ll hit the open three ball, go in the post, and gets to the line very frequently. Giving a steady dose of everything for El Toro was sophomore guard Christian Jimenez. He is a promising young talent that brings a steady personality to his team in the form of pressure defense, amazing ball handling, and the ability to score off the dribble and off-ball. Coming from the losing team, I want to make sure Ryan McElroy gets recognized. He had a team-high of 17 points and was one of the only reasons the Wolverines were in this game. With tremendous size and athleticism, he has the ability to play any position on the floor and can do whatever his team is lacking.
The controlling win puts El Toro into second place in the Sea View League as we only have four games left in the season. Both teams can still claw their way into winning the league if they are able to string some wins together. Watch out for an exciting finish to the season from these outstanding prospects and their teams!
