We dropped by Gresham High School on Saturday afternoon to take in a couple of Hoopsource Spring Drop-In games, which gave us an opportunity to see several younger players in action. Here’s a look at the top performers we saw.
Jaylin Ormond Jaylin Ormond 6'5" | SF Mountainside | 2023 State OR , OBC (2023 Mountainside)
Ormond used his physical strength advantage inside to post up strong and finish around the rim. He was tough on the boards on both ends of the floor and made an impact defensively as well. There’s no question that the Mavericks will be expecting big things out of him next year at Mountainside.
Aidan Kelly Aidan Kelly 6'5" | PF La Salle | 2025 State OR , La Salle (2025 La Salle)
A young big at 6-foot-5, we were impressed with Kelly’s toughness in the paint. He bodied up to whoever he was guarding down low and did a good job contesting shots. He played with passion and was very active not only physically but vocally as well. He’s the son of La Salle head coach Sean Kelly.
Peyton Reyes Peyton Reyes 5'9" | PG Mountainside | 2025 State OR , Oregon Premier Basketball (2025 Mountainside)
Reyes really makes his mark on the defensive end, where he plays with non-stop Energizer bunny style energy and tenacity. He created turnovers and was able to convert a couple of buckets on the break. Despite his usual size disadvantage at 5-foot-8, he outrebounded guys way taller than him down low.
Gavin Gross Gavin Gross 6'6" | SF West Linn | 2025 State OR , Oregon Premier Basketball (2025 Jesuit)
Gross is extremely intriguing as he’s long and lanky at around 6-foot-4, but is very skilled with the basketball. He knocked down open jumpers, created off the dribble, and finished some hoops through contact. Defensively he used his length to block some shots in the interior. His father is University of Portland head tennis coach Aaron Gross.
Gylan Payne Gylan Payne 6'5" | CG Oregon City | 2025 State OR , Oregon City (2025 Oregon City)
We had no idea who Payne was going into the day but the 6-foot guard quickly made an impression on us – because he made shots. He hit catch-and-shoot jumpers and created off the dribble a little bit, getting up and down the court in a hurry in transition. He’s got good genetics – older brother Gibsen played varsity and his father played D-I football at San Jose State.
Eli Vizconde, Oregon Premier Basketball (2026 Mountainside)
From what we observed, Vizconde plays with a maturity and calmness beyond his years as a current eighth grader. He was solid with the basketball, playing both on the ball and off, showed off a very smooth jumper from the perimeter and seemed to let the game come to him instead of forcing the issue. One to watch in the Class of 2026.
