Another do-it-all guy for Team Oregon will be Payne, who put together one of the best all-around seasons in the entire state his senior season. As devastating as he was as a bucket getter – he led 6A in scoring for much of the year – he was just as dangerous passing the ball and also making plays on the defensive end. He’ll get a chance to do it all at the Northwest Shootout for sure as arguably the state’s top unsigned player left on the board.

Rankings rise +8 (from #14 to #6)
The one player whose stock rise impacts the Top Ten is Payne, and it’s well-deserved. The 6-foot-5 do-it-all senior used a big summer to increase his strength and athleticism and it’s paid off as his all-around play has rocketed the Pioneers into a true Three Rivers League title and state tournament contender this season. He played big at the Capitol City Classic and it’s resulted in multiple scholarship offers at the D-II/NAIA levels with D-Is starting to take a look at one of the most underrated players in the entire state.

Payne had a great day at the pop-up, affecting the game in a multitude of ways and really showing a combination of decision-making and aggression that helped him succeed. He was a big threat running the break with a couple of big finishes when no one stepped up to stop him and also made some good reads and gave up the rock for assists. He shot a high percentage from 3-point with a smooth jumper. He made a great, quick outlet from under one basket to the other for an assist, and made some plays defensively. Overall, he showed off a high IQ and controlled attack that helped him stand out at the event.

One of the more all-around players at camp was Payne. While he was solid offensively scoring both inside and out, the Oregon City senior may have been just as impactful with his passing, often finding open teammates both in the halfcourt and in transition. The 6-foot-4 swingman used his athleticism to really make a difference on the boards and on defense blocking shots.
