Given how the transfer portal has affected recruiting at all levels, a number of unsigned seniors are still playing on the AAU circuit. Here are some of the top ones we saw over the weekend.
Max Juhala Max Juhala 6'5" | SF West Linn | 2024 State OR , Oregon Prospects 17U North (2024 West Linn)
Still deciding between a number of options as a highly regarded Northwest Conference recruit, Juhala had a solid weekend. He was very active looking to create off the dribble for himself and others and while he didn’t shoot as much from the outside as we’ve seen in the past, was sharp with his shot. As one of the bigger players for the Prospects North squad, he was counted on to help with rebounding and he delivered.
Jackson Owens Jackson Owens 6'3" | CG Cleveland | 2024 State OR , Oregon Prospects 17U North (2024 Cleveland)
Owens arrived on Sunday to help out and instantly made a difference with his old school mid-range game and effort level. The former Cleveland standout was on target with his patented jumpers in the lane and off the glass, and was a factor battling on the offensive boards. We caught up briefly with Owens who indicated he’s still evaluating his college options at a number of levels, from walking on at D-I to D-III to JC.
Miles Daly Miles Daly 6'7" | C Oregon City | 2024 State OR , Oregon Prospects 17U North (2024 Oregon City)
One of the top bigs at any age group at the May Day Challenge was Daly, who looked to post up strong down on the block and got a number of hard-earned left-handed finishes around the hoop. While he didn’t get as many easy buckets from running the floor, he is one of the best unsigned rim runners still available to sign from the senior class.
Brooklynd Latta Brooklynd Latta 6'3" | SG State OR , Carr Sports Academy (2024 Putnam)
Latta was a key third offensive threat for the eventual tournament-winning Carr Sports Academy squad. He effectively used his 6-foot-3 frame to operate off the bounce and absorb contact in the lane while finishing. His shooting from mid-range was solid as well. The former Putnam standout indicated that he’s currently talking with some NWAC programs.
Asher Vredenburg Asher Vredenburg 5'11" | CG Roseburg | 2024 State OR , GRIT Oregon 17U (2024 Roseburg)
As always, Vredenburg was extremely aggressive on the offensive end, seemingly attacking the basket with reckless abandon – and the results were rock solid. He had a huge game in GRIT’s opening game on Saturday and he almost carried the team to victory. The former Roseburg standout indicated that he’s still heavily looking at a roster spot offer from Pacific but has also been talking to some NWAC schools.
