If there were any lingering doubts about Maurer’s ability to hang with the best, they were finally silenced at the Northwest Shootout. The state Gatorade Player of the Year not only got tough buckets inside through contact but also stepped out and knocked down a couple of threes from up top. He finished with 16 points and a team-high 8 rebounds to go along with a handful of blocked shots as he heads off to Grand Canyon.

The former #1 ranked player in the state, Maurer still checks in at #2 and rightfully so. The 7-foot senior is coming off back-to-back 3A state championships with Cascade Christian and a three-peat could cement his legacy as one of the all-time small school greats in the history of Oregon high school basketball. Playing with the Team Why Not this past summer, he got stronger and tougher as an inside presence on both ends while maintaining his shooting stroke from distance. Still undecided on his college destination, Maurer is still aiming at signing this fall.
