There were many players deserving of honors, and I’ll give some shoutouts to those who deserve some recognition. Here are my selections for the all-tournament team in the 16U class:
Kadyn Betts Kadyn Betts 6'7" | PF Huntington Prep | 2023 #90 Nation CO : PLUTO Prospects
There’s no better way I can describe Kadyn’s weekend than domination. He was all over the court displaying his versatile skillset and why he’s the complete package. Three-point range, guard type ball-handling skills and a monster on the glass, the 6’7″ forward showed why he’s poised to explode this summer and fall. Look for his stock to sky-rocket in the coming months and his game to continue to develop and grow.
Mike McNair: Gamepoint Supreme Inland Empire
Mike wasted no time displaying why there’s a buzz about him this summer. While “shooting guard” might be his title, “scoring guard” might be more accurate. He’s a killer in transition getting into the paint and drawing contact and amassing production at the free-throw line. His long arms and athleticism make it hard for defenders to elevate to bother his pull-up jumper in the lane. I love his ability to shoot over the top of defenders like they’re not even there.
Ryan Leopold: Mile High Magic
Ryan Leopold was everywhere for the undefeated Magic. His nose for the ball and basketball IQ put him in the action every play. Terrific rebound and assist numbers complemented his explosive scoring output as he stuffed every statistic. As we progress towards position-less basketball, Ryan showed he can play anywhere on the floor. I like how he posted up smaller guys and attacked bigger guys off the dribble, and stretched the floor with his deadly jumpshot. He’s comfortable leading the break and distributing to streaking teammates or taking it hard to the hole and finishing with both right and left hand. Overall a very impressive weekend.
Cole Records Cole Records 6'3" | SF Regis Jesuit | 2023 State CO : PLUTO Prospects
Cole’s athleticism and dynamic game stood out in PLUTO’s 16U stellar weekend. While going an impressive 6-0 over three days, PLUTO’s team balance and shared production was very imposing to opponents as they had multiple players put up terrific numbers and who could have easily garnered all-tournament accolades. Cole’s ability to finish high above the rim, stretch the floor and play in traffic, made his versatility the star of the show.
Luke Justice: Colorado Anarchy Elite
The words reliable, steady, solid and consistent are two things:
1. What coaches love in their players.
2. How to describe Luke Justice’s weekend for the Colorado Anarchy.
While going undefeated on the weekend, Luke’s production was steadily in the 14-17 point range, scoring a multiple of ways. A sharpshooter from the outside and a soft touch from the paint, make Luke a no-brainer for all-tournament.
