Recruiting Report: Samuel Bannec (2018)
Six-foot-3 guard Samuel Bannec of Regis Jesuit improved his game with Billups Elite this 17u season and is now excited about final year with Regis Jesiut.
“I would say that my 17u summer was good,” Bannec said. “I would’ve hoped to have gotten more recognition by colleges but overall I really enjoyed playing all summer.
“Off that note I would say that I am really pumped for this upcoming winter especially to get back on the court with my Regis brothers. I believe that we will have a really strong team this season and will be hard to guard the more we play together.
“I would say that I have improved a lot in the area of seeing the floor and also getting a better understanding of the game which would be my Basketball IQ. Also being able to score off the dribble has been a big improvement in my game as well. I believe my shot has also gotten more consistent over this time.
“Last area I have improved were my leadership qualities. In the past I’ve been a leader but I am now starting to become more of a vocal leader to help the team.”
Sam put up a dozen points a game with three boards and 1.6 assists a night. To reach the goals he is hoping Sam would like to improve a couple things.
“I would say gaining muscle and also quickness are the things I want to improve before the season starts,” Samuel said.
Bannec and Elijah Martinez are the seniors leaders of the squad plus the junior class is stacked including top 2019 Samba Kane, Matt Wheelock, Payton Egloff, and others.
“Overall we have more than majority coming back,” Sam said. “We lost one starter from last year. We also lost two other seniors that were a great addition to the team. Samba also left to go to a school in Florida.
“This season we will have mostly a mix of seniors and juniors. This season we plan on accomplishing a lot. We all are seeing great things in each other and we really like to push each other to our next levels. We want to accomplish the aspect of being a great team not only in the state but also for each other.
“We want to be able to hold each other accountable and have trust in each other that we will do our part in each practice and game. As we take one game and practice at a time, I think we got a lot of big and good things ahead of us.”
Bannec has found a player in basketball that he can call his favorite.
“I haven’t been hearing from many but my goal is to reach out to plenty throughout this season and see what will happen from there,” Bannec.
“I couldn’t really tell you who has influenced my game. But I would say Gordon Hayward is my favorite hooper. I’ve been watching him since he’s been at Butler.”
