is back with Griffin Elite
, one of Kentucky’s most successful programs, on the UA Rise circuit. The 6’4″ combo guard returns after stints on the Made Hoops Circuit with Midwest Elite Cincy, an affiliate of Midwest Basketball Club, and on Nike’s EYCL circuit with Bates Fundamentals. He joins a loaded roster that’s guided by Campbellsville University MBB and WBB Assistant Coach, Austin Sparrow.
A strong driver who continues improving as an all around player, Tyson has made a lot of strides over the past few seasons. Duke has a really high ceiling and should continue to improve as he is a hard worker, from all indications. Tyson could be a breakout candidate for next high school season.
Duke had an up and down high school season at East Jessamine but ended strong and has had a good start to his AAU season. A slasher who can rise up and finish at the rim, Tyson needs to continue improving as a jump shooter to reach his ceiling. As his overall skill level rises, don’t be surprised to see some scholarship level schools come calling on Duke.
An athletic guard whose shooting numbers improved as his Sophomore season went along, Duke should benefit by having more size around him this summer. Tyson had to play out of position in the post for a lot of his Sophomore season. He should operate with the ball in his hands more this summer.
Duke continues to grow and get stronger. In addition to being a solid ball handler, Tyson is a good shooter who excels at getting into the paint and creating issues for opposing teams. East Jessamine is going to need Tyson to make huge strides as a go to scorer for them to be relevant in the 12th region this season. He checks a lot of boxes as a potential D1 recruit in the near future.
Duke stood out with a big two way impact on Friday, turning defense to offense in an instant. Duke intercepted numerous passes and quickly started fast break opportunities off these impact defensive plays. Moving at a different pace than a lot of other players on the court, Duke was clearly a top athlete despite being two grades younger than a majority of the campers at the event.
Tyson has the potential to be a top 5 player in the class. He’s grown to a legitimate 6’4 and has started to add bulk to his previously wiry frame. Duke is also consistently dunking through traffic at this point in his career. He needs to become a more consistent three point shooter but Tyson has the measurables to impress college coaches in the not too distant future.
One of the more fluid wing guards in the 2028 class in Kentucky, Duke impressed me with his change of pace off the dribble. Able to stop and go quickly and change directions as well, Duke had a sweet spin layup at the rim. After showing me perimeter shooting ability at the varsity level this winter, it was refreshing to see Duke against guys his age where he had an athletic advantage.
The freshman was confident and knocked down some early perimeter shots off the catch, mostly from the corners. Duke also flashed the ability to drive baseline and finish at the rim. The flashes I saw from Duke were very intriguing for a freshman and he’s a prospect I’ll be monitoring as he grows and continues to expand his game.
Duke is another prospect with serious long term upside. Tyson shot the ball well on Saturday in drills and game action and is able to go up and dunk with ease that many in the class are not doing yet. Keep an eye out for Tyson to be a top 10-15 player in the 12th region this season.
