Whenever I watch TJ play, he always impresses with his ability to conduct an offense. He is a great ball handler and facilitator, always making the right play. He is a knockdown shooter with one of quickest jump shots I have seen at the 14U level, excelling in the catch-and-shoot. Hudson also has great touch around the basket, being able to use floaters and reverse layups to avoid his shot being blocked.

Troy is the most consistent performer I have seen in this incoming freshman class, as he looked great again on Friday night. His handle and vision make him such an elite option as a lead guard, as he is constantly setting up his teammates for open looks. He has probably the quickest jumper I have seen at this level, being able to get shots off in a flash, knocking them down at a high clip. Hudson is also headed to Minnetonka for his freshman season, as he and Bellfield will form the top 2030 duo in the state.

TJ was a joy to watch on Hopkins’ JV team this past winter and he is carrying his success into the spring and summer with Team Hudson. He does not play like an 8th grader and he is the perfect point guard to have run an offense. He has a tight handle and a lightning quick first step, which he was using to blow by defenders, making great reads to find open teammates on the perimeter or use his touch around the basket when he got inside. Hudson is a sniper from deep and was drilling triples from well beyond the three-point line off the dribble as well.

Troy Hudson Jr. is a joy to watch. As an eighth grader, he showed a tremendous feel for the game while running the show in Hopkins’ JV win over Maple Grove on Tuesday night. Troy’s handle and pace were exceptional for his age, and the defense was unable to speed him up. He consistently broke defenders down off the dribble, getting all the way to the rim for finishes or creating easy looks for teammates. He also proved he can really shoot it, knocking down 42% from beyond the arc. Hopkins has a strong history of guard play, and Troy looks like the next one up.
