Perkins just never seems to be uncomfortable in games. He seems to be in full control and plays the game at once controlled pace. It is smooth and soothing to watch. He was able to get to the rim when he wanted. He attacks well on a straight line to the basket. He rarely gets bumped off his spot. He extends his long arms to get by the defense and finishes with a touch around the rim. He was able to get out in transition and capitalize efficiently.

This game was uncompetitive from the jump as Westerville North continues to dominate the competition in Division II. Perkins was doing whatever he wanted as he set a school record with eight 3-pointers and a game-high 32 points. Incredible shooting display by Perkins which was only possible by Westerville North swarming defensively and playing an unselfish brand of basketball.

Perkins finds ways to make plays happen on both ends of the floor. He gets paint touches at will. He cruises to different spots with ease. He showed he could score and had 6 points two three pointers. He was active on the defensive end applying good ball pressure and causing havoc. He has a quick first step which allows him to get by defenders in a blink of an eye.

Perkins was an impressive player tonight. He did a great job of scoring the ball. He was scoring from all three levels but the most impressive was his three-point shooting. The Warriors ran many plays for him to get looks off and he consistently knocked the shots down. He did a good job of finding the gaps for him in the lane when he attacked and floated the ball in. He was the go-to guy tonight and his team did not lose a quarter.

Westerville North has a lot of guard talent which means players on their team need to be comfortable playing without the ball in their hands because there’s only one basketball for their guards to share. On Saturday, I thought Perkins scored off the ball on cuts, spot-ups and set plays as well as I’ve ever seen in his career. Scoring without needing to put the ball on the floor can really help improve percentages and in a stretch in the second half of a great game with Lawrence Central, Perkins scored five or six consecutive buckets off spot-up corner 3’s, backdoor cuts and scramble plays where the ball found him in a position to score at the rim. If Westerville North is finally going to break through a win conference and district titles, they’ll need to play how they did in the second half where the ball was flying around the court and their defense was swarming and causing turnovers.

Nova Village has advanced to the final four with their 17 U team blowing past the competition with just six players on Friday and Saturday. Perkins has been their standout performer this weekend, shooting the cover off the ball from 3-point range. On a Nova Village squad that’s tough, will defend you and out-tough you, Perkins scoring ability has allowed them to separate themselves so far. Always been a point guard who uses his quickness and change or direction to get where he wants to on the court, when Perkins is consistently making pull-up jumpers he is almost impossible to stop. The semifinals and potential championship games for the Nova 17 U group pose significantly tougher hurdles than what they’ve played so far, we’ll see if they are up for the challenge.
