McCubbin is a player who is going to have a ton of responsibility this year, and from what we saw this weekend, he looks up for the task. Arapahoe truly did have a pretty balanced young team last season, and they can use that to their advantage with a ton of returners. They’re going to need Reed to be a veteran presence for them and a calming presence. He’s shown that he can take care of the ball, facilitate and run the sets, and this weekend, there was a bit more scoring as well. Reed will have to be a true PG that is finding open teammates and buying into a role if Arapahoe is going to use him to the best of his abilities, but also use that IQ as a defensive anchor as well. He could be a two-way standout in that conference that could make some noise, and it’s finally his time. Want to see what he does with the opportunity.
McCubbin enters the season as one of Arapahoe’s true swing factors. Defensively, he sets their identity with his switchability, physicality, and disruption in passing lanes. Offensively, he’ll be asked to run the show as the primary ball handler. I want to see him attack more to keep the offense flowing and consistently pressure defenses. It’s a big year, and he’s absolutely a head-turner type of piece.
Reed is a player whom we have now gotten eyes on a few times, and we like what we’ve seen. He’s a hard-working guard who plays with a ton of effort, defends at a high level, and is constantly moving. We’ve seen him impact the game with his movement as he slashes for baskets, spaces the floor with a steady outside shot, and keeps teammates involved. That Arapahoe team is a scrappy bunch who competes on every possession, plays the right way, and Reed fits right in. He’ll be a player who gets to make his mark this season and he jumps onto the rankings with some solid Fall ball. Varsity season is up next!
McCubbin is a small baller that plays above his size. He took the summer off to get his jumper right, do some skill work and has been competing against and working with older prospects and now we want him to come out and show us his progression. From what we’ve seen from him he’s a crafty guard with high upside that finds angles against bigger defenders, shoots it well, delivers sharp entry passes and pays attention to the small details. After a summer of grinding, it’s time to showcase all of his progress and the expo is a fun place to put it on display as we’re eager to see the results!
