Now listed at 6’7 as a sophomore at Bloomington Kennedy, Musunguindji is going to be one to watch in the 2028 class. You can tell he’s still growing/adapting into his long frame, and if his athleticism can catch up to his frame, he could be dangerous down the road. Already he’s averaging over 20 ppg as a sophomore, and plays much stronger than his long and lanky frame would suggest. The 6’7 forward goes right at smaller players in the post, but showed flashes of a face-up game where he can shoot over sagging defenders. Finished with 23 points and 10 rebounds on Monday night.

One of the bigger surprises on the day, Mwenentanda made the most of his opportunity after making the trip all the way from the Upper Midwest. Originally a native of South Dakota with family roots in the D.R. Congo, the rangy forward stood out immediately with his enveloping length and prototypical high shoulders. Upon further evaluation, he showed off a smooth stroke out to the perimeter with flashes of comfort putting the ball on the deck to make plays. He’ll have to work to add strength to his frame, which looks like it still may add a few more inches before all is said and done, but with high-major pedigree (Mwenentanda’s sister plays at Vanderbilt) and a strong foundational skillset, the upside is obvious with the emerging forward.

Mwenentanda has the highest ceiling out of all the prospects, in my opinion. He already has next-level length, and a few years of growth should have him above that mark. Slightly raw yet, but his length and athleticism combination cannot go unnoticed. He’s receiving some time on Sioux Falls Washington’s Sophomore team, I did see.

Mwenentanda is one of the top overall prospects in the state, but he’s one I’ve not yet ranked because I didn’t see him in his 14U season with Mokan of the EYBL this offseason. I did see him in his 13U offseason with Sanford, covering for the Prep Hoops Next Circuit. He’s one Prep Hoops Dakotas will have a keen eye on early to see how he progresses with Sioux Falls Washington and what his role will be and what level he lands with. He’s getting National attention, where he’s getting invited to elite camps. By sources, he’s developing into a long wing, and he offers a boatload of upside. His sister currently plays for D1 University of Texas, and Musunguindji also brings a ton of excitement to South Dakota basketball. Below is a clip from Courtside Films’ Instagram account to show what Mwenentanda is capable of and his immense upside. You’ll be hearing and seeing his name plenty.
