About Masen
Expert Analysis
Duvalier Johnson | Prep Hoops Scout
Masen is a player who we got to see at Colorado Live as well as at a Prep Hoops showcase this Summer and he was certainly overwhelming. His size and ability to impact shots inside defensively make him a prospect who could make a varsity impact. At 6’8, he’s the biggest player in the class, he runs the floor well and keeps it high, rebounds misses and goes right up and has soft touch inside. He’ll have to adapt to the varsity speed and I do want to see guys bang with him down low a bit more and see how he battles with them but I do feel as if he has a high IQ and knows where to be, can fill holes and hold his own and has dominated when he’s playing his age group. He’s a Top 10 player in the class heading into the season.

Masen was the biggest player in the 15U division, and he used his 6’7 frame to his advantage. Mile High Select knows how to bring the best out of him, and he was very productive. They had him affecting the game in multiple ways as he kept his hands high defensively, stepped out on guards for a few seconds, moved his feet, and had multiple blocks in the games that we saw him in. Masen showed good footwork offensively and had a few over-the-shoulder hook shots, squared up and attacked, and they put him at the high post as well. We saw him play a bit at Colorado Live with Valor Christian and wanted to see more of him. Well, he looked good on our second and third watch as well, and that is while playing up!

Baumgartner is beginning to grow into the player his frame suggests he can become. He was one of the biggest prospects at the event at 6’8, and his size alone demanded attention. When he got the ball, he forced double teams before he even put the ball on the floor. More importantly, he never looked overwhelmed by the pace or physicality of Colorado Live despite being a young prospect seeing that type of varsity attention for the first time. He rebounded everything in his area, set hard screens that created separation for guards, and anchored the paint defensively. He’s still developing offensively, but you can already envision the role he’ll carve out because of how much space he occupies and how willing he is to get in and do some of the dirty work.
