Maxwell-Grimes, a senior guard out of Suffield Academy in Connecticut, is one of the top decision makers in New England and continues to impress with his feel for the game with the ball in his hands. Suffield holds the 5th spot in Class A with a 12-6 record in lead games and can rely on Maxwell-Grimes to come up big in clutch moments. The lead guard is as confident with the ball in his hands as any guard in the league, showing a great understanding of how to play at different speeds and to get to his spots off the bounce. He finishes around the rim with creativity, is able to get into his mid-range game late in the clock, and has the ability to knock down jumpers in bunches from behind the arc. Maxwell-Grimes remains uncommitted at this point in time.

Maxwell-Grimes has always been able to score the basketball—I noticed that from the first time I saw him play a couple years ago. The 6-foot-2 combo-guard has a knack for getting to his spots in isolation and can elevate and hit shots from anywhere on the floor. But as of late, he seems to have leveled up as a facilitator and rebounder. The senior is grabbing more boards than he ever has, and he’s showing the ability to effectively run a team like a point guard, which is probably what he’ll be asked to do at the next level. Maxwell-Grimes is a triple-double machine, and it’s cool to see him continue to add layers to his offensive skillset.

Maxwell-Grimes, a guard out of Suffield Academy, played with more assertiveness as a scorer than I’d previously seen. He’s a highly regard perimeter shooter, but has seemingly taken on more of a creator role this season. He does a great job of playing at different speeds as a driver, keeps his dribble alive when angles are cut off, and shows the ability to both finish or facilitate in the paint. I was also impressed with his commitment on the other end of the floor, as he sat in a stance and really made an effort to defend in space.

If Lomicka isn’t Suffield’s best player, it’ll probably end up being Maxwell-Grimes. When I’ve historically watched the senior guard play, he has shown incredible scoring instincts from all three levels — the ability to shoot it from anywhere over half court, to stop on a dime in the mid range and elevate for pull ups, and to get all the way to the hoop for finishes over the trees. But at their open gym, I was incredibly impresses with Maxwell-Grimes’ feel and passing vision in the pick and roll. He threw on time, on target passes with lots of velocity. He has the makings of a scholarship level point guard if he can consistently lean into his playmaking strengths.

Maxwell-Grimes is a 6’2″ guard out of Suffield Academy. The 2026 prospect is a true combo guard that has really developed his ability to make plays with the ball in his hands. Long known as a high level perimeter shooter, he’s gotten stronger and more athletic, both of which allow him to hold his line on drives and finish through contact. He’s crafty around the rim, showing a variety of finishing moves and counters. Defensively, he’s capable of guarding either spot in the back-court and shows good instincts off the ball, with the ability to generate steals and deflections at a high clip.

Maxwell-Grimes is a hard-nosed guard for Suffield Academy that has a knack for putting the ball in the hoop. He’s only 6-foot-2 and not the freakiest athlete on the floor, but he’s still a plus athlete who can shoot it from three, from the mid range, and can finish at the hoop with touch quite effectively. Even when he misses a couple shots in a row, he has the confidence to take the next one and is truly always attacking the defense. He can make good passing reads here and there, but he definitely takes a lot of tough shots. With a talented squad around him, I think he could take a big playmaking leap this year, which would increase his scholarship chances.

really impressed with his on the ball defensive activity. His effort was tremendous and was picking the pockets of opposing ball handlers all game long. He also hit his share of open threes and break away layups offensively.

Maxwell-Grimes, a guard out of Suffield Academy, checks into the rankings at #61, climbing 27 spots since our last update. A crafty ball-handler, he does a nice job of playing with a live dribble, getting to his spots as a scorer, and keeping possessions alive offensively. He has a good feel playing in ball screens, can score from well behind the three point line, and does a nice job of getting into his pull-up game. Defensively, he sits in a stance, moves his feet, and doesn’t gamble; but, takes advantage of turnovers when the opportunity presents itself in transition. Scholarship level programs should take notice this summer, as he’ll play on the 3SSB circuit with New Heights.
