Expert Analysis
Robbie Hodin | Prep Hoops Scout
Lomicka has a serious chance to be Suffield’s best player and one of the standout players in the entire NEPSAC. The 6-foot-10 forward reminds me of Danny Wolf; he obviously has size and length, but he handles, passes, and shoots the ball like a guard, which makes him a really versatile floor spacer on the offensive end. He has so much finesse to his game, but some added strength to finish over bigs in the paint would probably be huge for his development. Once he puts that together with his skillset, the sky is the limit. Regardless, scholarship programs should be all over Lomicka, who’s a modern day big man with tons of potential.

Lomicka, a forward out of Suffield Academy, jumped 25 spots in this rankings update. An intriguing prospect with a nice combination of positional size, fluidity, and skill, he had a strong summer while running with the NJ Panthers. He’s an above the rim athlete that does a great job of operating as a grab-and-go rebounder in transition, has the ability to knock down shots in catch and shoot situations, and shows some scoring ability in isolation situations. His ability to move laterally stands out defensively and with his length, he’s a quality rim protector that covers space quickly.

A unique skillset at his size and his position, Jake Lomicka displayed an intriguing combination of perimeter guard skills— three point shooting, putting the ball on the deck in the open floor and in halfcourt offense alongside an inside paint presence— low post back to the basket game and a face up game with finesses finishing.
Looking to carry his strong player into the July live period with the NJ Panthers, Lomicka has received interest form plenty of Ivy League schools— Princeton, Brown, Haravrd, Cornell, and Yale.

Lomicka was one of the most intriguing big men at the NEPSAC Showcase because of his combination of size, length and guard skills. The 6-foot-10 forward handles and shoots the ball well, and he’s able to grab the ball and take it up the floor when he gets rebounds. He also defends multiple positions because of his coordination and foot speed and is a smart player on both ends positioning-wise. Once he gets a little more under control with the ball, he should have scholarship coaches blowing up his phone. This will be a big “prove-it” season for Lomicka at Suffield Academy.

Lomicka, an athletic and skilled big out of Suffield Academy in Connecticut, joins this update at #63. Long, lean, and athletic, he does a nice job of making plays at multiple levels. He can play as a roller out of ball screens, diving hard to the rim or find soft spots in the defense for short rolls. He’s a good athlete in space, finishing strong at the rim off cuts and in transition. He can play out of the trailer position, both as a guy who makes catch and shoot threes and as someone who can put the ball on the floor. Defensively, he moves well laterally, uses his length to his advantage, and offers rim protection when coming from the help side.
