Wasike got in front of us a couple of times this summer, and we really liked what we saw from the big man. He’s a physical force down low, competing hard and making himself difficult to move off the block, but his offensive versatility really caught our attention. Wasike can score with his back to the basket, use his strength to finish through contact and make plays around the paint. He also runs the floor well and gives defenses another problem in transition. Defensively he plays with discipline and toughness. The Expo gives him a chance to showcase that complete game against quality frontcourt talent and make a move in the rankings

Wasike has been on a run lately of just showing that he could dominate all Spring in club, and now he’s brought it over to Cherokee Trail and gave them a dynamic paint beast who has to be game planned for. He’s a monster in the paint as he’s throwing around his size and trying to finish through defenders. If he has a smaller unsuspecting player in the post, they get scored on; he is grabbing boards and going through contact and backing guys down on the block. We certainly want to see the motor rise with it so that he’s able to do that for a bit longer, but he takes over in games at times and will have to be an inside force for them this season.

Wasike delivered a steady, competitive showing throughout the tournament, impacting the game with effort and awareness on both ends. He played with good energy, staying engaged in possessions and looking to make winning plays. Offensively he showed a willingness to move without the ball and stay active in the flow of the offense, finding opportunities when they came. He made simple effective decisions and didn’t force the action. Defensively he competed, stayed in front and helped keep pressure on opposing guards and wings. His consistency, toughness and reliable approach made him a dependable presence for his team all weekend long
