KJ played with his high school team recently in a local event and I talked to the opposing coach after the game. The coach stated…. “we were right there competing good and then bam, Wilson hit five threes in an instant and the game was over”.

That is what KJ Wilson can do.

His all around play in the D1 Minnesota win over Hoop Habits was one of the best individual games I saw all year and he pry had 15-20 games where he scored more points than that one. And let’s not forget Wilson was one of the top ten scorers at the 16u level in Adidas play!

Wilson was the Sophomore of the Year in the winter and the 16U Player of the Year in the summer. Another amazing 3.5 months of hoops in a season from the state’s top 2028.

During my evaluation of the 16U division, I was able to watch a very talented D1 Minnesota 16U team. Kevin Wilson played a very crucial role in D1 Minnesota 16U’s win over Dream Vision 16U with a stat line of 22 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals. His shooting splits were 6/15 from the field with a 40% clip, and from the perimeter, he shot 5/9 with a 56% percentage in that area. Offensively, he displayed he can get a bucket due to his ability to shoot make from multiple spots on the floor. He plays well in the pick and roll, being able to create off the dribble either going against the screen or using it entirely. When he gets into a scoring rhythm, he can be a threat to the opposing defense. Kevin has already received an offer from the University of Wisconsin in June before the 3SSB Session III in Bryan.

Kevin Wilson Jr – The six-foot 2028 guard from Tartan was very active for D1 Minnesota 3SSB against New World. In their win Thursday Wilson led the way with 27 points against New World including 10 of 11 from the free throw line. Wilson’s shot making from the perimeter is key to his offensive flow and he hit three 3-pointers.

KJ has to be one of the most consistent performers in Minnesota right now, as he is so solid and is such a great decision maker. He led D1 Minnesota to a double-digit win over Hoop Habits Elite in a primetime matchup, looking like the best player on the floor. He was creating scoring opportunities for himself and his teammates, getting into the lane with ease. He was scoring with touch around the basket and drilling deep three-point looks. Wilson recently picked up an offer from Wisconsin and keeps proving why many think he is the top player in this 2028 class.

Minnesota has been waiting for the D1 Minnesota vs Hoop Habits game all 16u season and in the biggest game of the 16u season, D1 won handily 75-54. And in that big game, KJ Wilson took complete control on both ends of the floor right from the start.

Wilson has been named All State as both a Freshman and a Sophomore at Tartan and the player of the year in his class both of those seasons. And this weekend everything he did to get D1 Minnesota two more wins in convincing fashion.

What separated Wilson from everybody?

We know KJ can hit threes, we know he can dribble separate to make shots, and we know he can take games over in scoring bunches. That said, when KJ mixes that scoring with outstanding ball movement (seven assists in the Hoop Habits win), with great defense (Hoop Habits guards struggled greatly in this game) and vocal leadership possession by possession, you have the player that Wisconsin added and Minnesota just had on campus for a visit. Throw in eight rebounds and when we get this all around play from Wilson, he is one of the nation’s elite guards.

KJ is running with Powerhouse 16U this weekend and it was very apparent that his game is on another level. He was causing major disruption on the defensive end, using his length and quickness to get in passing lanes and pressure opposing ball handlers. Offensively, he was getting everyone involved, racking up a number of assists. Wilson hit on four three-pointers, coming off both the catch or shooting off the dribble. Wilson and Powerhouse are looking like heavy favorites to win the 16U Division 2 title.

Big performance for Wilson Jr in an incredible contest against Phenom United as D1 Minnesota 16 U grinded out a tough win. A crafty below the rim finisher, Wilson Jr was able to acrobatically avoid shot blockers and his unique pace on the ball allowed him to get by his primary defender. A skilled scoring guard, Wilson Jr got to his spots off the dribble and played on balance. One of the most productive 16 U guards I saw all weekend, I’d expect Wilson Jr’s recruitment to spike in the next few months.

KJ is one of the most consistent producers in this 2028 class, as he is already so polished, skilled, and smart. He was leading the charge as the point guard for D1 Minnesota , creating scoring chances for himself and for his teammates all day. He looked great when working in the pick and roll, as well as pushing the pace in transition. Wilson was scoring inside and knocking down looks from the perimeter and has his team at 3-0 on the weekend so far.
