Kavontay is another highly-touted 2027 who had his fingerprints on the defensive end of the floor. Rose has excellent size and a strong frame to allow him to hold down the paint defensively. He walls up well, crashes the glass, and rotates to protect the rim. Kavontay can be a handful offensively as well, particularly with his back-to-the-basket and as he rim runs in transition. Rose finished with 11 points, 8 rebounds, and 2 blocks in a matchup with Winchester Rising Stars on Saturday.

. Ragin Prep is the defending 1A State Champions, but the progression of Rose is a big reason why they are even better this year than they were last year. He is putting up over 16 points per game this season, solidifying himself as one of the most dominant offensive players in the class. There aren’t many teams at the level who have the size to match up with Kavontay, so as long as he stays on the floor, he is a massive difference maker, and the Rams are a clear favorite.
Another Junior who is off to a strong start this season is Rose. He’s putting up 14.8 points and 7.0 rebounds a night through 6 games. The Rams look like a clear favorite in SCISA 1A so far, and Kavontay’s size and persistence as a scorer are both key reasons why.
If this is the motor Kavontay is going to play with all season, there’s no reason why he won’t be in the conversation with the best bigs in the 2027 Class. Rose was absolutely unstoppable against Andrews in Game Two, putting up 17 points and 8 rebounds in just a two-quarter game. He was dominant as a rim protector, glass cleaner, and back-to-basket scorer. Kavontay even had the highlight of the night, where he ran the floor perfectly for a posterizing dunk in transition. Keep an eye on Rose this season down in the ranks of SCISA 1A.
Kavontay is still very “under-the-radar” within the state. He was a key contributor for SCISA 1A Ragin Prep in 2024-25, and will return as one of the best players in the class for his Junior Year.

left a good first impression on me in Myrtle Beach and earned a spot on this list with a 12-point, 11-rebound double-double. Although he missed a few early shots in the paint, Rose got his game going with an impressive coast-to-coast dunk that showed some of his potential as a big man. Kavontay got in a rhythm after that moment, continuing to use his size and athleticism advantage to dominate the paint on both ends of the floor. He works hard for positioning in the post, making him easy for his teammates to find and even easier for himself to finish.
Rose earned his bouquet of flowers on Saturday at Sumter. The 1A boys championship contest between Curtis Baptist and Rose’s Ragin Prep team would shift in the Rams’ favor in large part because of his clutch play in the interior. Rose finished with 18 points – much of them in the second half to lift Ragin Prep to the 1A championship victory. One can get a lot accomplished when they stand at 6-foot-6 like Rose is. It was not as if Curtis Baptist had a notable height disadvantage either – Rose’s footwork and overall talent simply caused problems for the Crusaders. At that height, not only will he convert on high-percentage attempts, he will also grab plenty of rebounds and win many battles on the boards.
