-McKnight has shown some really nice flashes over the past three years as an aggressive slasher off the bounce that generates a ton of paint touches for Clinton Grace. The consistency in his production is what is needed for him to take the next step. And with several key cogs in the CG offense graduating this spring, he should be in line for more opportunities to attack/create off of side ball screens and in transition as a primary ballhandler. Love his instincts and versatility at the defensive end of the floor as our scouts saw McKnight cut off the water of several different opposing scoring guards throughout the season.

Love his versatility on the offensive end as well. Not a freakish athlete from a run/jump standpoint. Doesn’t have blazing speed. Games revolve more around changes of speed, strength and pace. McKnight gets into the paint at a solid rate when attacking closeouts. Takes long strides to the basket and can finish with either hand. If an opponent collapses on him, he has a soft floater as part of his in-between game. McKnight also scores high percentage layups from slipping ball screens or making sharp backdoor cuts when defenders overplay him on the perimeter. While he shoots three-pointers at a low volume, his decent form and mid-range touch provide optimism for improvement moving forward. Defensively, McKnight is one of the better on the ball defensive guards in the DMV area. Uses his length well to make it difficult for opponents to shoot over him around the rim. Also rotates quickly from the weak side if a teammate gets beat off the dribble, limiting easy layup opportunities for opponents.

Kai McKnight Kai McKnight 6'2" | SG Clinton Grace | 2027 State MD is a good all-around player who performs as a high-level glue guy. He consistently makes the right plays at the right time, and he does all the little things well. Whatever you need from Kai on a game-to-game basis, he will give you, and every great team needs guys like him. Kai had an efficient game on offense and was excellent on defense in their blowout win over Woodside. Clinton Grace dominated the day, and their ball pressure and overall defense were a big reason why. Kai had 14 points and 4 assists against Woodside.

-McKnight brings whatever his team needs that day to any team that he’s on. A decent athlete that can finish layups around the basket after last-second dump-offs from guards, McKnight serves as a good connector that will catch a pass and immediately look to make the right play for one of his teammates. McKnight can knock down an open jumpshot, fights for every loose ball, and runs the floor with really good energy. Interested to see how he is used at Clinton Grace to make different lineups click
