Expert Analysis
Robbie Hodin | Prep Hoops Scout
Urey is a basketball player, plain and simple. He’s natural with the rock in his hands and clearly understands how to operate an offense and pick his spots. The 5-foot-10 guard is undersized, but he has an excellent handle and feel for the game, so he’s effective in the pick and roll and in small spaces. If you don’t defend him, he’ll carve you up for finishes in the paint with both hands, but if you bring help and collapse on him, he’ll find dump down and kick out passes at will. He can also make open threes, though he needs to get better from there. Urey is an extremely smart player who should find a D3 fit when the time comes.

Urey, a lead guard that spent his summer with Expressions Elite, had a coming out party at The Expo. A shifty, change of pace point guard, Urey does a solid job of running an offense and utilizing screens to get into the paint. While he is a capable scorer, he does a good job of drawing multiple defenders and then finding open teammates for easy looks. When he doesn’t have the ball in his hands, he shows a good feel as a spot up shooter, showing his hands early and stepping confidently into his jumper. Defensively, he has quick hands and moves well laterally, allowing him to be a solid on-ball defender. He’s a bit undersized, but is still young and makes up for that right now with good burst and solid athleticism. He’ll be another fun prospect to follow going forward and is primed for a big season at Rocky Hill Country Day.

Urey is a true point guard who really understands how to use the pick and roll and make decisions in the paint. He plays at his own pace but also has some really explosive dribble moves to the hoop and a finishing bag to pair with it. He can shoot it, too. The sophomore has a bright future ahead and all levels of college basketball are on the table.

is an undersized guard who has tons of skill on the offensive side of the ball. A slick ball handler, he can get to his spots with a complex dribble package and good side-to-side movement. Urey is comfortable taking mid-range jumpers when he creates space and isn’t afraid of shooting off the dribble from three. He is also a smart passer who makes solid reads around the perimeter and finds open teammates on his drives to the basket. Defensively, Urey acts as a pest by deflecting the ball and creating turnovers. While his physical tools work against him, the skill he shows at this point should overcome that to some extent, making him a player that coaches can get behind.
