has cemented himself in Mesa Ridge’s offense, and his shot-creating speaks for itself. Caban utilizes his 5’11 frame to shoot over other guards and get an extra step on his defender when he’s driving downhill. We haven’t seen too much of Caban so far, although I believe his production and volume will continue to increase throughout the early months of the new year.
Caban makes his rankings debut as a confident guard expected to log major varsity minutes this upcoming season. He had a solid summer and we saw him on multiple occasions be able to use his quickness to get downhill and create offense for himself or teammates. Caban appears to be comfortable both on and off the ball as a combo guard. Caban impressed at Colorado Live and the summer showcase as a scorer and lead guard. With added consistency from deep and defensive focus, he has the tools to be a name to know moving forward and looks to be a long-term difference-maker for his program.
Caban played like a true point guard as he was getting downhill, reading the floor, and making smart plays. He excelled in pick-and-roll, hitting rollers for easy finishes while using speed to beat defenders and finish at the rim with either hand. He knocked down a couple of threes, but could hunt that shot more. With his court vision and toughness, Caban stood out in both 3-on-3 and 5-on-5 action and is a player that I think gets plenty of time this upcoming season. Glad he came out and competed.
Caban showed he can score the basketball early in his first year of play. Averaging 11.1 points per game on the freshman team before adding 4.5 per game after moving up to JV. The scoring ability is clearly there and now we want to see how he gets it. At the showcase we’ll be watching how he creates his looks for himself. Does he read and use screens to free himself in the corner, or leverage a quick first step to attack the lane and finish? In addition showcasing his shot creation tools will help round out his offensive profile and make his scoring threat even more dynamic
Caban is a skilled guard who can create off the bounce and shoot it with confidence. At Colorado Live, he spent time off the ball but still made his presence felt with his shot-making and energy. He’s got the ability to step up when it matters and isn’t afraid to take big shots. At the showcase, we want to see him command the floor, run the offense, and compete head-to-head with the top guards in the class.
Caban impressed with his ability to impose his will on smaller defenders. He used his strength and burst to get downhill and finish at the rim, while also displaying excellent court vision. He was able to find open teammates quickly or take it to the paint to score in key moments, he played within the offense and provided steady production throughout the day.
