has carved out a role that highlights perimeter shot making and versatile playmaking. Through the first few weeks of the spring, Johnson has proved to be tremendously valuable with his quality guard play— stepping into in rhythm looks as a spot up shooter off the catch while also excelling as a playmaker on both ends of the floor, using solid anticipation skills as a defender and poking the ball out from opposing bal handlers and forcing turnovers while also keeping his court vision when attacking to find guys up the floor in transition and collapsing the defense to find open outside shooters.
With a handful of Division 1 offers from the likes of Fordham, LIU, Quinnipiac, Monmouth and High Point already on the table and starting the spring AAU season with solid and dependable guard play, look for Johnson to reinforce that notion of some of his skillset translating to the next level.

impressed with the countless number of explosive scoring performances he erupted for over the course of his junior season. Extremely confident from the outside capable of rattling off a high percentage of makes, Johnson consistently knocks down perimeter looks, with deep range accuracy too, capitalizing on late closeouts and undisciplined contests, punishing defenses from the outside. Although reinforcing his reputation as one of the state’s most dynamic shot makers, Johnson also took noticeable strides as a ball handler— appearing increasingly more comfortable running the offense and making smart decisions, as evidenced by the strong reads he displayed as the season wained as a primary ball handler while also contributing defensively, often turning stops into offensive opportunities.

Johnson impresses with his ability to dance with the ball in his hands and is very captivating when he is dribbling around in the half-court. He is a volume threat from behind arc and was able to connect on a plethora of chances from deep. Johnson can play on or off the basketball. He does a great job doubling as a defender and can turn that into offense for his team. He is a prospect who is someone who will be a priority for low majors in need of a guard who can make shots.

was still extremely impactful from the perimeter despite seeing intense on ball defensive coverage and zealous contests. With each and every showing however, Johnson seems to be growing more and more confident and comfortable initiating offense and making sound decisions, reflective of a lot of the smart reads he made with the ball in his hands as a primary ball handler.

Elizabeth struggled at times on the way to three losses against tough out-of-state competition, but Johnson nonetheless showed himself to be one of the more potent scoring guards in his class across the region. Johnson averaged over 20 points across the week, highlighted by a 31-point outburst on the event’s final day. Known as a prolific shooter from the perimeter, he knocked down 10 3’s over the course of the week while being steadily denied and face-guarded as teams grew increasingly aware of the danger he presents when left an inch of space. Most notably for his long-term outlook, Johnson showed important growth as a ballhandler and decisionmaker while being tasked with a heavy dose of offensive initiation. He doesn’t fit a traditional mold, as he’s more of an undersized ‘2’ or combo guard than a true point, but Johnson’s scoring ability and dynamic shooting stroke place him squarely on D1 radars no matter what.

delivered a standout scoring performance that highlighted his ability to score from numerous areas on the floor. Johnson is crafty guard who does a really good job of utilizing smooth footwork, different pump fakes, and pace to get to his spots and bait his defenders and much of that was on full display with the different mid range pull ups and step through jumpers he hit over the course of Saturday’s action. Johnson’s also a guard who has no problem inviting contact and playing off bumps and that was clearly evident of the ample trips to the free throw line he took. Confident from three, Johnson also showcased his three point shot making prowess, creating separation off the bounce and knocking down shots from three point range with deep range accuracy.

got into a nice flow knocking down a number of shots off the bounce from different spots in the mid range area. Doing most of work offensively from the in between area, Johnson did a good job of getting to his spots and consistently knocking down mid range pull ups and different types of floaters from different angles. Johnson was also a threat from the perimeter as per usual, knocking smooth catch and shoot threes. Having taken some strides as a true point guard, Johnson also demonstrated some of his court vision and decision making skills with a few high level reads with the ball in his hands.

As New Heights pulled away from Team Final for a momentum-establishing win heading into the 3SSB circuit, it was Johnson in the driver’s seat delivering the knockout blows. Known as one of the elite shooting threats in the region, he was punishing from long range while showing off his blisteringly quick release. Whether spacing out off the catch or pulling up in tight pockets with a hand in his face, it felt like anything that left Johnson’s hands was hitting the bottom of the net. Johnson also helped set the tone on the other end of the floor with aggressive ball pressure to help speed up bigger opposing guards. We’d like to see him continue adding to his on-ball arsenal offensively at his size, but the way he continues to impact high-level games with his shotmaking prowess should place Johnson firmly on D1 radars moving forward.
