Fornes is truly starting to come into his own, and the work he has put in throughout the summer is beginning to show. We already knew he could knock down shots, but his growth has gone well beyond his perimeter ability. He is doing a much better job using his size and length to create advantages, whether that means posting up, finishing around the basket or battling on the glass. Defensively he has embraced the role of a physical interior presence who can protect the paint and rebound. That added versatility makes Fornes a much more complete prospect and a player we expect to keep rising
Fornes had some impressive moments throughout the day, particularly during 3-on-3, where his size was overwhelming, and they decided to spam him on the block. He was a matchup problem and was aggressive in that portion of the day. He cooled off a bit as we got into the 5-on-5 with a different team that didn’t feed him the entire time and still found ways to pop. At 6’7, he can rebound in traffic and play around the basket. He moves well, runs the floor, and catches it, and he had a few tough finishes through traffic. There were some difficult makes mixed in, including one-legged shots that showed his touch and confidence. I also liked seeing him demand the basketball and want opportunities to score. The next step is consistency. When everything was clicking, Fornes looked like a prospect with a pretty intriguing two-way ceiling, and we want to see more of that as he should be a name that pops for his HS this year. Solid day for him that will boost his stock.
Fornes is a freshman at Fountain Fort Carson who’s already turning heads. Standing 6’5”, he showed out this summer with his physical tools and dominance down low, making him a tough matchup for opponents. He’s active on the boards, consistently boxes out, and controls the paint on both ends. What makes him even more intriguing is his ability to score from all three levels the inside, mid range and beyond the arc. With that combination of size, skill and versatility, Fornes is a freshman to watch closely this season
Fornes stands out with his size and length, pairing that natural frame with a smooth shooting stroke. He’s an excellent scorer from the floor, especially from deep and consistently gets to his spots with ease. His ability to stretch defenses and knock down shots makes him a dangerous perimeter option and a tough matchup for opponents. Looking ahead the next step in his game will be fully leveraging his physical tools. Using his size and athleticism to become a more consistent threat inside can open up new levels to his scoring. On the defensive end his length and reach give him the potential to be a true stopper, altering shots and controlling the paint. If he can blend his perimeter skill with an inside presence, Fornes will become an even more complete and impactful player this season
Fornes was fun to watch because of his shooting ability, consistently knocking down shots from beyond the arc. He displayed excellent movement to get to his spots, showing awareness and timing to create open looks. Once set he drilled his shots with confidence and rhythm, making him a reliable scoring threat from the perimeter throughout the showcase
